I don't watch baseball regularly but that looked like a boneheaded play to be out that far from the base. Is that normal? WTF was that guy thinking?

Normally on a fly ball with less than 2 outs, unless you're sure the fielder won't catch the ball, you tag 2nd base (i.e., go back to 2nd ready to run). That was a base running mistake, especially bad because Springer was on deck. That was a horrible way to end the game in a loss.

It looked at first like the ball was gonna drop. Barger was a tad late to react once the fielder had tracked the ball. If that ball drops it's a tie game with a runner on first, nobody out, and Springer at bat. What could have been.

I mean it was a mistake by Barger, but in no way was it a "boneheaded" mistake. Someone else mentioned he should have stayed at 2nd to tag which makes zero sense given the circumstances.
