Nothing about the world series made me want super teams back. In fact, it did the opposite.
Although if it's my team, I wouldn't complain.

Super teams have existed throughout NBA history and have helped attract more casual viewers (examples include the Celtics super teams of the 50s/60s, the 80s Lakers and Celtics, the 90s Bulls, the early 2000s Lakers, and the KD/Curry Warriors). Trying to argue otherwise is nonsensical.

The Celtics of the 60s didn’t even sell out home games.
2017 was an abomination, the ratings were bad, and fans and owners of the other 28 teams hated it, so now we have the CBA that we have, and we’ve had 7 different champions in the past 7 years, and we don’t know who will win the East or West this year, much less the championship. It’s much more exciting to follow.

This is the only reason I don't like the baseball model. The Dodgers have like a 500 million dollar payroll. Whoopdie damn doo.
You know you can go onto a website and look at a team's salary rather than make things up.
2025 Payrolls
Dodgers: 240.4
Mets: 228.5
Braves: 213
Padres: 193.8
Jays: 193.0
2024 Payrolls
Yankees: 260.4
Phillies: 222.3
Dodgers: 198.6
Mets: 189.0
Cubs: 177.7
Then we have the NBA payrolls.
2025 Payrolls
Suns: 214.4
Timberwolves: 202.3
Celtics: 193.0
Knicks: 188.9
Lakers: 188.3
2024 Payrolls
Warriors: 205.6
Clippers: 200.0
Suns: 191.3
Celtics: 184.9
Bucks: 182.2
Why aren't you including the salary deferments? That's why they have more talent. Come on.
he also pulled up 2026, not 2025.
2025 salaries:
LAD - 350M
NYM - 341M
NYY - $304M
PHI - $290M
TOR - $255M

Nothing about the Dodgers makes me want a superteam resurgence. It makes me want an MLB salary cap (which hurts the Jays to, which is ironic)

Of course LA fans want super teams. The big cities and markets could buy championships.
For the rest of America we don’t like them and view buying a championship as the downfall of sports. I root for the underdog team in 99% of situations just to see Goliath taken down.
The Mavs and Spurs beating the Heat were some of my favorite championships of all time.

It helps general viewership but that doesn’t represent the type of person on RealGM. I could care less if the NBA has more viewership. The contracts are big enough. I want to see a good product Put out on the floor and teams being able to buy championships is not the right path.

My bad, I just went off Spotrac.
I don't think it's fair to dog the Dodgers. Lots of teams have spent a lot of money in baseball and came up empty.

Sportrac also has Ohtani at $28M, when $700M of it is not being paid for a decade.

you do realize that without superteams theres no goliath to root against. The feeling of the heat losing doesnt exist without them being a superteam in the first place.

Most people who watch sports are casual fans though. Teams need to spend in order to put together a championship-winning roster (your last sentence makes no sense).

Please don't derail sports threads with politics. We have a Current Affairs board for that stuff. On the GB it's just going to start a fight and get the thread locked. -b
That wasn’t an attempt at a political motivated derailment, that was a clever and funny play on words attempt at humor. Sorry that went over your head

I agree but only for casuals.
Exhibit A: I've never watched more baseball than I have in the past couple of years but I can probably only name 5 players off the top of my head and only understand the basic rules, terminologies etc

Same. I dont watch baseball much, but the last couple of years since the Dodgers got Ohtani I started watching more and trying to actually learn the sport. In contrast ive actually have not been as involved as I used to be with the NBA the last couple of years.
My opinion, but it feels like baseball has retaken basketball in terms of overall popularity the last couple of years. I thought basketball was in the lead during 2000s-2010s. More people that I meet know more about baseball recently.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

I don’t care about that or so I think it’s true. Great teams will still exist. OKC didn’t buy their team. They drafted and traded right. The best teams will still be the Goliath teams.

The league actually enforcing rules >>>> Superteams. What we want is a good product. Not teams the media can hype into oblivion or top 5 players coasting to titles.

Honestly, super teams have never been the problem. The history of the league is filled with very good teams boasting stacked talent winning loads of titles.
