Re: World Series Game 7, November 1, 2025 - Dodgers @ Blue Jays, 8PM
my 1st post ever here. Just had to write something here to share.
I live in LA but been Blue Jays fan since 88 when my family immigrated to London, Ont. went UWO, watched Jays win 92 93 on campus. moved to LA in 2000 for work.
wasn't planning to post anything here until i heard something on radio here in LA.
Am 570 carries Dodgers game, they were talking to Ned Colletti and he was saying how Dodgers were more calm during hot moments and Dodgers don't make mistakes other teams make.
this is what really got me p'ss off and I quote Ned Colletti " If he doesn't slide and run thru, they win the world series"

Well, I think the Mariners missing out on their first WS ever because of the Springer Dinger is the was probably almost as brutal for Seattle.
But of course, nothing is really worse than choking it in Game 7 of the WS. We're in 86 Red Sox, 2011 Rangers lore now.
I would've also included the 2001 Yankees because Rivera blew a save in Game 7 there which lost it for them, but they already won something like 3 in a row in the late 90s so who cares if they blew one.
The two most miserable sports cities both ended up having their hearts broken in these playoffs in the most painful ways possible. The baseball gods are cruel. But also, our managers are stupid.

Vladdy suddenly hitting for power in the playoffs after not doing so for most of the regular season was also a big reason this team got as far as they did.
Hopefully it carries over into next season with him and it isn't just a 2025 October thing.

This is where we really needed that power from Varsho to come through. Even a couple homers from him this series and it's likely a different outcome.

We lost by 1 run in the extra innings of game 7. Even one more of anything from anybody on the team and it's a different outcome.
My point though is that the Jays should continue to target power in free agency/trade just like they've done with Varsho/Santander. Not having a healthy Santander and the HRs he could have provided in the regular season and postseason hurt them badly.

Totally agree with this. People like to crap on Santander but the healthy version would have helped a lot.

I was listening to the Baseball Today podcast and I agreed with their take that Kirk/Hoffman probably out thought themselves on that 3-2 pitch.
Everybody in the ball park, including Kirk/Hoffman/Rojas knew that worse case scnario was walking Rojas with Ohtani on deck. So they knew Rojas was thinking fastball, and they tried to get cute,. It was not the time for that - they should have pounded the zone and made Rojas execute on a fastball rather than what turned out to be a hanging slider.
Hoffmans high fastballs worked nice vs Seattle against much better hitters than Rojas. Is Kirk calling Hoffman to use his slider instead of his fastball or is the f.o. is my question.Hoffmans velo would not have been the problem with his usage not being that high lol
This **** org.

He threw a couple of fastballs that he fouled off, maybe wanted to go back to it because they got a whiff on it from the first pitch. The 2-2 slider needed to be better though, that was the one where you could get him to whiff on. 3-2, everybody knows you have to throw a strike.
Hoffman got Ohtani on one of those outside sliders for strike 3 because it was outside. His slider is not bad if he locates it.BS going on here lol.

We need hitters with actual talent. Expecting scrubs like Clement and Lukes to repeat their performances from these playoffs/this season and not going out to sign real MLB hitters would be malpractice.
Order of business this off-season needs to be:
1. Re-sign Bo or sign a replacement (like Kyle Tucker). I'd go after one more above-average bat as well to hedge against a Springer decline (in general, we have too many defense-first players).
2. Sign 2 front-end starters. We only have 3 starters going into next season right now, a rookie, a 35 year-old, and a #4-5 starter.
3. Acquire a closer (ideally via trade).
We need to be in $300-350M payroll territory next season if we want to stay relevant.
I,m not saying I expect Clement Lukes or the rest of the "GLUEJAYS" to repeat their performance. No way would i ever want to get rid of any of them. Not just because they are Popkins proteges, but because they are good team players. We found something special with these guys. Not losing 1st place ,and holding onto it from July until the end of the reg.We beat some of the best pitchers in the league,in the world in the post season, and it wasn,t a fluke, and they dont cost a ton right now.We should ride this as long as we can with them.Popkins has proven to be one of the best if not the best hitting coaches in baseball, and we got him,and we are gonna keep him.IKF has to go.We cant have any room anymore for guys who cannot perform consistently if we are serious about winning. Its like Josh said, and they listened to him("Not the try league, but get er done league").Clement is up for 2 gold gloves, and one is for utility player. He is amazing, and he can really hit.He really took to hitting under Popkins. He knows what he is doing. These "GLUEJAYS" can only get better under Popkins with the type of HC he is saying "you do you at the plate".That is the best kind of HC you can have. Our ex HC was trying to tell players what they should do at the plate.Popkins makes his players feel comfortable in their own skin at the plate, and thats half the battle.Gluejays term was a nickname mlb network gave them a the bottom of the order where we led the league in production for the entire season.

The Ohtani factor can't be overlooked. Rojas can sell out there knowing he has to get a strike.

SanDiego is also now a miserable sports franchise who hasn,t won,and this year they thought they finally had the Dodgers number, but couldn,t beat the Cubs because all of their best hitters stopped hitting at the same time.Would have been cool to see that SD/LA matchup.SF is a team that has the Dodgers number when they are good.

I'm still in a daze. It's like a neverending hangover that I can't shake.
I'm trying to watch NBA/NFL to get over it but I just find myself staring at the screen not even registering what's happening in the game..

This **** broke me. I came into this season expecting nothing but was sucked back in when they made their run early in the summer.
It sucks that the Raptors are garbage right now and I don't care much about hockey. At least the Bills are still good, but all they do is deliver heartbreak as well.
Toronto sports **** blow.

I can't watch any of the replays just yet. CP24 will start to show a clip, and I have to turn it off.
When Hoffman gave up the home run, I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat, and felt like this running Family Guy gag. Only with more anguish.
Worse still, I missed Bieber giving up the home run as I couldn't bare watching him pitch, so I thought the game was still tied. Suddenly hearing the announcer's reaction, and the Dodgers celebrating, and looking at the score, it hit me like a ton of bricks, and I started to scream "WHAT?!? WHAT?!?".
What made me feel better, oddly, was seeing how disappointed our players were, and remembering this hurts way more for them than it does for us. Still, this World Series loss was so bad it made me consider not supporting another team again because of the heart break.

Clement is a good player, but he was a league average hitter all of this season and last season. His playoff run was a massive fluke he's unlikely to ever come close to repeating.
Lukes should not be an everyday player. He doesn't do anything well enough to justify a spot in the lineup. He can come off the bench.
We need more consistent offensive talent on the team.
