It’s funny the French have a really bad reputation for being azz holes and when my wife and i went to France they were really nice to us. Which was the exact opposite experience we had in Montreal. You could see them seething when we asked if they spoke English in French.

Our experience has simply been that friendly French people act friendly and non-friendly French people don't pretend to be friendly. There's just no attempt at effort either way. It's a very low energy usage way of interacting with other people.

new yorkers will generally feel fine in france. we don't expect big happy greetings when we walk into a place like most americans. that sh*t always throws me off when visiting other parts of america. like every random person saying hello to me as i walk by.
