The Jets are heading in the right direction but time will tell what happens.

I remember people saying that when they drafted Williams and Sauce. As of right now the Jets are the football version of the early 2000’s Clippers. They are grooming players for everyone else but themselves.

Not sure if a 3-year rebuild is "the right direction".

They're completely blowing things up. It's a smart strategy long-term.

That team is bad. You might as well strip it down & load up on picks. Smart front office move. They now have a ton of draft capital.

Cowboys expecting to compete this year or next?

They're in a hole this year, in 10th place for the NFC playoffs with 8 games to play.

Next year, there are some huge cap hits. Dak goes from $50.5 to 74 million, Lamb goes from $15 to $38.6 million, Ferguson goes from $3.99 to $10.4 million, Tyler Smith goes from $6.2 to $27.5 million.

What about the players they just acquired? Quinnen will go from $8.4 to $21.75 million, Logan Wilson from $2.9 to $6.55 million. Earlier they traded for Kenny Clark who's making $2.3 million but is due to get $21.5 million in 2026.

They have a lot of players who will be free agents after this season so potentially the Cowboys can get cap relief but they all make under $10 million, in many cases under $5 million, so they won't offset the huge salary increases for a half dozen players.

So maybe they have to cut some big salary players in the offseason?

Because while they avoided paying Micah over $40 million, next season they will be paying over $43 million to Clark and Quinnen.

And what about Pickens, who's making $3.66 million but will no doubt be looking for salary over $30 million a year?

Jerry is not going to be writing a book about roster construction.

Even if they keep all the big money players next season, will they be more competitive? How much better will the defense be, currently #31 in the league?

Trading away two young stars is a terrible idea. You build around those guys not trade them. Their problem is coaching. They have talent. They just have a horrible coaching staff that starts with Aaron Glenn.

They weren't winning with either of them. Getting 2 1st's for Sauce will prove to be a smart move down the line. They need to overhaul the coaching. But that team wasn't competing for anything meaningful.

But why trade a 25-year old if you don't think you'll compete within the next 3 years?

They're still the Jets. The same issues that plagued them the last 50 years will plaque them in 4 years.

The Quinnen Williams trade is really all about next season. This season’s lost for the reasons you said. The Cowboys have been horrible at drafting DL so trading for a stud DT is perfectly ok in my opinion. Especially when he’s already locked up for 2-3 more seasons. Including Mazi in the deal was just an added bonus for the Cowboys. Too bad we couldn’t include Sam Williams too.

I thought whole point of trading Parsons was to get multiple cheaper players. They essentially traded Parsons for a worse player playing a less impactful position. Not like one player is going to fix that defense.

Probably better than whatever they've been doing last 20 years.

Somebody save Garrett Wilson.

The Cowboys were not winning anything with Micah Parsons. In case everyone forgot he played for the Cowboys the last few years and their defense was terrible after Quinn’s defense got embarrassed in the playoffs. It doesn’t make sense to pay a 1/3 of your cap to 1 guy when even with him you’re terrible. The that same money and get 2-4 impactful players (they don’t have to be the absolute best at their positions).

The Cowboys biggest problem (even during Quinn’s seasons as the DC) the last decade has been their run defense. They just traded for “statistically” the best run stopping DT in the NFL. They also traded for a very good run stuffing DT in Clark. They also added a good LB that has been playing on a bad team. That’s 3 solid-elite players for 1 guy that didn’t make your defense tat much better.

Plus they might not be done. Word is they are still trying to obtain Minkah Fitzpatrick and/Bradley Chubb.

And again, these trades are more about next season than this season. They are really too far out of the picture to have any realistic hopes of making the playoffs this year.

We will have multiple players, free agents.

Parsons is literally getting QB money.

Quinnen is a stud. It's a good move if they make the right corresponding moves. They need to hit on their picks. Both the Mazi & Guyton picks set them back. They can't have any more misses.

The Dallas secondary is complete doo-doo right now though. I mean, our draft picks need to be all CBs.

I think we will see the remainder this season be an improvement vs the run, but our secondary being picked apart even more.

I’m an OL/DL guy so I like the trade for the cowboys. Quinnen Williams is still young and very good. That’s not a great defense now but build around williams and it could be good in a few years

They could use another pass rusher. But yeah, they need to upgrade the secondary. Giving Bland that contract could backfire on them. He looked awful last night. They need better corners for sure.
