Even in what was clearly an aberration year for him offensively (84 wRC+ compared to 99 wRC+ in 2024/123 wRC+ in 2025 and 99 wRC+), he was still 4th among position players in value that year for the Jays. Speaks to his tremendous defensive value.

Hi Randle,

Why are using a different metric now than the one you brought up for Varsho earlier in the thread? Doesn’t it make sense to use fWAR?

No, why would it? I've used both WAR metrics in this thread when they are applicable, as have you.

That reminds me though:

Daulton Varsho 2023-2025 rWAR: 11.4
Gabriel Moreno 2023-2025 rWAR: 8.5

The trade that keeps on giving.

Kirk was robbed of a Gold Glove. I honestly don’t see any argument for anyone else unless we are saying data is meaningless.

Hi Randle,

So if I feel fWAR is applicable here, then Gurriel was better than Varsho in 2023?

Gold Gloves at C

Moreno - 1
Kirk - 0
Varsho - 0

Damn, D’Backs got the best player, catcher and the best playoff performer in the trade. What a trade. Jays got fleeced.

The league realized in the second half that Kirk was getting fatigued and you can just run on him. His inability to hold runners probably played a factor for the voters.

His bat is also very inconsistent.

Also, I refuse to take any professional athlete seriously who’s so out of shape.

The lengths he goes to in order to defend Varsho is absolutely hilarious and sad at the same time.

Whit Merrifield is a random bozo on Twitter?

I grant you probably weren’t following the Jays when he was on the team so you don’t know him but still

Imagine how bad the Jays would have been without him. Definitely not a playoff team.

Ah it’s nonsense using the same stats you did but now it doesn’t help your narrative. Sad.

If you’re looking for a fair and impartial analysis of Daulton Varsho’s performance - why not choose Lindsay - who is the Rogers media broadcaster who does ‘feel good stories’ about the Blue Jays players (including Varsho) and pair her with Whit - who is a former Blue Jays teammate and friend of Varsho.

I’m sure they would only say ‘all true’ things about Varsho. LOL.

I don’t have a narrative, I have facts on my side.

Makes things a lot easier.
