Wemby outplayed by Ayton.

Sheesh.

Jokic, Luka, SGA, and Giannis race.

Again.

Doncic couldn t hit the ocean today, yet he was far and away the best player on the court today. Won against the Spurs without Reaves. Clearly won the duel with Wembanyama. Doncic should be ahead of SGA and Wembanyama now.

Exactly, if you were to tell a player “give me the best possible impact you can have on a game when you aren’t hitting your shot”

That’s what he did, the steals, the assists, the spurs were physical and tried to take him out the first quarter

Doncic is on pace to play 51 games, while SGA is on pace for 82.

SGA is and should be #1 right now.

It wasn't even one of his best games this season but Luka still completely outplayed Wemby:

Luka 35 pts, 9 reb, 13 ast, 5 stl, 2 blk
Wemby 19 pts, 8 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk

At this points the MVP race should look like this:
1.Luka
2.SGA
3.Giannis
4.Jokic
5.Wemby

My opinion.

1. Luka
2. Jokic
3. Shai
4. Giannis
5. Wemby

Lakers are outperforming expectations and Luka's numbers are unreal.
Jokic has been on tear offensively. The defensive rating doesn't support it, but looking at the games I think he's playing the worst defense since the year before his first MVP.
Shai, slightly lower numebers overall than LD, Joker, but the main reason he's at #3 is the overall depth/quality of the team around him. He just has the best supporting cast of all in top 5.
Giannis is doing Giannis type things, but east is objectively easier so I can't put him above #4.
Wemby, would be higher considering his start to the season, but he's averaging 14points on 32% shooting last two games.

Wow, the bbref MVP tracker had SGA at 44% and Jokic at 30% before last night.

Now SGA is second place with 15%, and Jokic is at 71%.

(Tbf, Doncic might even be leading if he qualified. But he doesn't.)

Jokic was already up to the highest BPM of all-time and the league lead by a bit before having his best game of the season against Miami tonight. And now he’s only 1 game behind SGA in the loss column. I was voting for SGA early, but Jokic has to be clearly in the lead now.

Was supposed to miss one week. Came back earlier.
Of course there is always the possibility for Doncic to not qualify because of missed games but if he qualifies he is in the lead. His team had the most difficult SOS so far and they are overachieving. OKC plays as expected.

If Luka gets us to +/- 55 wins averaging 33 to 35, I do think he wins MVP regardless of the level of others. It's just how these awards work.

Again, this will fire up Shai stans, but IMO he's a great player. Great, great scorer, good playmaker, and a good defender. But he's playing in the same era as Nikola and Luka.

I still believe those two are more valuable to their teams, and in a vacuum, than SGA.

And I would add, Wemby is on his path to become another one too.

For those stans, I watch every OKC, Lakers and Denver game, I doubt some of those well informed critics do the same. But I always appreciate their constructive point of views. :D
He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot.

He's been insane but MVP is a cumulative award, he's already missed a couple of games. MVP's aren't decided by per game stats

As for the rest, not having LBJ is a plus for him. Not only does he get to dominate the ball and post video game raw stats - the Lakers are also a better team

If he had a whole season with no LBJ he'd be the front runner for MVP

We'll have a lot of bickering in March, but apperciate the fact we have 5 players who would be MVP locks in normal years
Jokoc
SGA
Luka
Giannis
Wemby

Cade isn't far behind and compared to
expectation, Josh Giddy is doing an insane job.
Sengun also deserves a HM.

It depends how LeBron plays. If he helps them winning more games it would be beneficial for Luka, who can get 30+ with or without LeBron, but if they finish second with LeBron's help that would mean more for his Mvp case than having few points less.

People are talking like Lakers will be worse with LeBron, which is kinda funny, knowing that he will take most minutes away from players like Laravia, Vincent...

Jokic won the MVP in 22 with 48 wins 6th seed in the weakest WC in the last 25 years, he missed 8 games, and the best player in the supporting casts of 22 Nuggets and 26 Bucks would be Aaron Gordon, if Giannis has near 50 wins season, he deserves the MVP as much as anyone else.

Yeah, to me, Jokic, Giannis and Luka are on their own tier. These 3 only have to wake up in the morning and you know you'll will see some crazy stats from them. The rest boils down to their team if they can even follow and seal the victory. Wemby looks a bit inconsistent at the moment while OKC's depth is just out of this world.

But there are still 2, Jokic and Luka who will influence or control the game no one can, and that's with their ability to playmake and pass. If you can get any extra production on defense that's just a bonus. Luka had 2 terrible shooting games in a row, yet you don't even feel it when you check the box score. If his FG% would in these two games, would be at least to his normal averages, he would still be close to 45 ppg triple double for the season.

Agreed.
To win the championship this year they need Lebron.
