Report: Erik Spoelstra's Miami Home Destroyed in House-Fire
Wild story coming out of Miami. Erik Spoelstra's entire home was destroyed by an intense house-fire last night. Sounds like there were no injuries thankfully. No details yet on how the fire may have started. Hopefully it was nothing nefarious.

Glad to see no injuries reported right now. Not 100% sure what his family situation is, but I believe he's divorced and co-parenting so hopefully he can find a good temporary living solution that allows him to still have whatever visitation and stay-over time he has with his kids.

Where was his ex?
He did wait to finalize his contract after he finalize the divorce.

I'm sure someone in the organization has a place he can stay.
But that really sucks. Poor guy.

Weird. Just as I'm reading this thread, on my television screen there is a Miami apartment engulfed in flames.

Damn. That's a tragic loss. Good that no one was injured or lost in the fire.

Hate to be cynical but definitely worth looking into

Agreed. It's rarer these days (but still possible) that a fire of that magnitude starts on its own. Definitely worth looking into.

He can tell his players that he's a true "Heat"...
But in all seriousness, glad everyone is safe.

Sucks losing everything you own, pieces of your past, achievements, and things you just cannot get back.

So many important papers burned to a crisp. Things like birth certificates, etc... Hopefully he has a fireproof safe or strong box at a bank. The material stuff can be replaced, but the hassle is just... my heart goes out to Spo.

That’s awful! Same thing happened to JJ Redick last year.
There are some things money can’t buy, especially those family photos/mementos that will never get back. I couldn’t imagine myself ever losing those. I would be heartbroken. Hope for the best for Spo and family.

Must be hard to concentrate on your job after that happened, with a game tonight. But the most important thing is nothing happened to him.

really glad he and his family are safe. it will be a hassle and there's trauma there but they'll be able to replace everything
odd that it was just 1 house fire , you don't see that happen too often.
It wasn't just JJ reddick, it was several lakers players and coaching staff.
edit: and probably clippers too

Re: Report: Erik Spoelstra's Miami Home Destroyed in House-Fire
It was called in at 4:36 in the morning, no one was home. Other neighbors may not have noticed if they were inside, or also, not home. Obviously, if someone broke in and used an accelerant, then yeah, it would ignite quickly. I will lean towards something innocuous like a faulty circuit that caught something else on fire etc, but I'm really curious what they find. There was a swimming pool and ocean water nearby as well.
I'd like to mention that I've worked in fire response (wildfire) before, and if a FD gets a call, the crew is usually on the scene with enough time to save parts of the structure, at least some parts of it [especially a house of this size]. I feel for Spo n fam because there's a lot in the house that is not recoverable, and memories in those items are gone forever. It's a weird feeling getting a new place to live with a bunch of random things that aren't yours, but they are now, and there's nothing from before the fire to decorate your place or spice up a room. Life takes a lot of time and a hungry flame takes hours to be satiated.
