Re: The official fire Chris Finch thread
We do not discriminate against any of those that were previously "duped" in terms of Chris Finch's coaching ability. No hard feelings towards those that were mistaken and NOW have seen the light.
Terribly stubborn and unmethodical. Square peg in round hole. Assistants must be frustrated out of their minds. Lacks leadership qualities.

What available coaches would be considered better than Finch? Would they also be considered a better fit?

There aren't any that are proven or known which is why most everyone here says Finch should be fired without actually answering this question.
I do think Finch has done the best he can. This is probably the first year he's had the exact same roster as the year before.
I can with my full chest say that this team wouldn't fare any better under a different coach that is available and known. There's maybe 2-3 coaches in this league that I think could do better.

I think part of it for people is a desire to see what Micah Nori has, because he is more press savvy. Apart from him, the two names I would assume most folks would look to are Michael Malone and Taylor Jenkins.

I just want a coach that will run plays. The flow offense isn't good for our low IQ team.

Re: The official fire Chris Finch thread
As many of you know, I am not an X’s and O’s guy, so I defer in that area to you. Personally, I give coaches credit when they upset other teams in the playoffs, and when the players listen to the coach. Without the knowledge of X’s and O’s, that’s my yardstick, and Finch has been the franchise’s best coach. Others may disagree.
That said, I watch the whole NBA, and coach firings. It doesn’t seem to be dependent on record, or play calling. The one unforgivable sin that gets a coach fired, is that the players stop listening to him. We even fired Flip for this reason.
So my question is .. are the players still listening to Finch? Has the recent lack of defensive effort been because of this? Ant likes Finch, but he still doesn’t always do what Finch wants him to do. I realize that superstars (particularly in an unpopular market like MIN) get a long leash, but is the team still listening to him?

Sam Cassell or James Borrego would be my choices as of now, particularly Cassell. Borrego is a Popovich guy and an offensive schemer.

Re: The official fire Chris Finch thread
When the team CANNOT box out, we don't need a PLAYER'S coach. Screw catering Ant. That dude just wants to win. His personality doesn't mind discipline.
I almost see it as Ant is game to hold players more accountable than our coaches are. Ant doesn't give a **** verbalizing at any time when he sucks. Sick and tired of Finch's excuses. Stop pointing out anything good, and become an absolute prick. This team of under-achieving clowns need it.
Or, the team is under-achieving because you can't coach. More likely the latter...

I do not think all is on Finch. A new coach will not make this team smarter. We are lacking of BBIQ at times and this is hard to fixed.

Re: The official fire Chris Finch thread
I agree that Finch by default has been our best coach. He’s done great with what he’s been provided roster wise.
However, I do feel like he’s lacked structure when he should’ve implemented it more. Too often, the team can go off the rails and show a lack of consistent discipline.
Although, I don’t want to fire him just to do so. You need a clear vision and plan in place. Part of me also gets tired of seeing coaches be recycled when they haven’t achieved anymore than the previous one.
I might be interested to see what a new coach could do. Someone mentioned Cassell, I wouldn’t mind that. Mike Malone might be ok but would he wear out his tenure too early? Would he rub some ppl the wrong way?
I do think this year could be a hot seat year for Finch if upper management actually believes they have a chance to win it all. But I also think they could be ok with this being a gap year.
They surprisingly overachieved last year with an injured Luka and Curry if we’re being honest.

Re: The official fire Chris Finch thread
Another thing to note is that Finch's contract runs through the 2027-28 season.
IF a coaching change happens, I think it happens somewhere between summer 2026 and summer 2027. That gives a new coach one to two years to make a mark before we have to really concern ourselves with the next iteration of the roster's main core, as this group of Ant/Jaden/Naz is all signed through 2028-29.

Re: The official fire Chris Finch thread
The team's struggles are 2/3 on TC and 1/3 on Finch.
Finch is being asked to do things that just plain should not work.
And he's got a 38 year old Mike Conley and declining Rudy Gobert as the only currently playable options at the 2 most important positions on the court.

So the players have no responsibility in this pie chart of blame?

.69420%
The entirety of the responsiblity of both the GM and coach is choosing and managing the players.
If the players are the problem, their failure falls on their shoulders.
The question becomes,
Were the players chosen poorly or are we not getting enough out of them?
Currently I lean towards the former.
