I know. It’s annoying. I don’t understand why they keep doing it. But yet it keeps happening.

I’ll stop. Maybe all caps will help….

THIS IS NOT A GOAT DEBATE THREAD.

You've made the definition of best so narrow that it only makes sense in your head and disqualifies everyone except people who want to vaguely agree with you.

He's got the highest ceiling we've seen so far. He's played 4 games against a cupcake schedule and a lot of players start the season with historic statlines. Give the kid time to breathe.

Can you please explain what you mean by this lol?

Overhyping LeBron when he was young built up a following of people waiting to hate on him when he failed.

People have too high a standard for Wemby, he starts to look like a disappointment when he's still been great.

Wemby seems like a quite guy. Doesnt seem like a guy who is looking for a camera to pose in front of. James literally has Chosen One tattooed on his body. I think a majority of the dislkke for him he has brought on himself for the last 22 years. There is no comparison in this regard between the two.

It seems silly, but not sure why he’s holding the ball so low off the catch. Guards are disrupting him before he even puts the ball on the floor.

LeBron was on sports illustrated cover at 17 with the title "chosen one". He went and got the tattoo after that on his shoulders to signify the burden of that moniker.

Wemby is absolutely wanting the spotlight and building himself to be the face of the league. His offseason was a marketing campaign.

Why do basketball fans care so much about the personality of the player? That doesn't seem like a useful skill or anything worth caring about when following a sport. Is anyone looking for the player with maximum 'personality' in 2K?

I dont think Wemby’s personality or off court demeanor are anything like James. Could that change? Of course, but i havent seen that yet. Seems like most people are excited to see what he does down in San Antonio. Point i was making is your initial post was kind of a “people dont like James and he is a victim.” Well, maybe there are reasons why he isnt really liked by a lot of people and he is to blame for most of it. He isnt the only current (or former) superstar player who is disliked by fans, and i dont see any connection with Wemby personally wise as of yet.

But why does personality make people dislike someone? And what types of personalities?
Seems like people like the psychopath personality but don't like the attention seeking personality.

I just don't think any of it is relevant to basketball discussion.

Well personally if i find somebodys personality off-putting then i really dont want to hear them speak or watch them on tv. That would go for athlete, actor, or anybody honestly. There is a point where somebody becomes too much of a narcissistic.

Wemby needs 7 championships to do it imo, the standard for GOAT is that high. That'd be the only way I can see him surpassing Jordan.

There is no denying his defense. Never seen a player effect the game like him on that end.

His offense is definitely stoppable, which I don't think it should be. With his skillset and length, he doesn't get enough easy buckets in my opinion. Maybe a lot of that has to do with his guards not being able to find him in good scoring positions though

I’m not looking for a GOAT argument. This isn’t about accolades. This isn’t about prime or peak. This is about pinnacle, the absolute top independent of time spent there.

The statement stands alone.

Wemby is the best player to ever step on a basketball court.

And….

….IMHO its not very close.

I’m shocked to see people still talking about him moving into the current top five, etc. No, no no. He is way better than that.

What we are witnessing has no context.

In an all time draft for a single game he gets picked first.

Lol wtf

It's just like, obvious dude.

It is self-evident.

If Aristotle were around today, the saying would instead be that all men are mortal, therefore Wemby cannot be a man, because he is a **** God.

Did you not see that the OP wrote certain words and phrases in italics and stuff? Do you not understand what that means?!??

He is the single most unique player I've ever personally seen step on a basketball, I think I can say that with conviction.

There have been some odd NBA players as well. Shaq was always a tank, Boban is a literal giant, Bol Bol looks like slenderman, Muggsy Bogues and Nate Robinson looked like kids out there etc. etc. You got guys jumping over Kias and other guys looking like they should sell insurance but still playing in the NBA, tall/short, fat (Big Baby/Tractor Traylor to Poku), there's been a lot of surprising physiques etc.

All that said Wemby with his size/length/athleticism/handling/smoothness, is just the most unique player I've ever encountered.

I don't know about that. There's always some news about Wemby playing chess in some random park or training with monks or something else. I think Wemby likes getting attention and likes the media portraying him as this eclectic person, wise beyond his years.

..and that's why threads like this should not be created in October.
Trying to convince people that a player will easily have 5-6 blocks per game, along with 2k stats in general.
He's great. And more.
But he's not the best player in the league, let alone the best ever.
He will become the best in the league in the future as the likes of Giannis, Jokic will be older.
For the best ever you should probably wait for a decade and we'll see.
Give him the time though. Don't add that pressure to a youngster. It isn't fair.

This is what happens when guys get "exposed". It simply means that teams and players do their best to stop an opposing player. Therefore, flaws become visible.

The greats work on minimising those flaws or chinks in the armor year after year. I can imagine that holding the ball higher would disrupt Wemby's shooting rhythm. He'll figure it out with more reps.

But, yes, the he's Wilt Chamberlain, he's better than Bron ever was etc. nonsense needs to stop. At least for now.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

When I started this thread and made the poll I was thinking it’d be around 30/70%. And looky at where we landed. To the 70%, you’re a little slow but we’ll see when you get here. Enjoy the ride.
