Or if they somehow turn it around this season. Thought that comes to mind is the 07-08 Wizards who started 0-5 and made the playoffs. The West is stacked though. They appeared to be competitive in games with the Spurs/Grizzlies. But things have gotten ugly with Zion out of the lineup with a 30 point loss to the Celtics - and then a loss to the Nuggets where Zion only had 11 points.

It'll depend on how things go for Utah with the inevitable Markkanen trade and in their draft lottery, as well as the development of Ace Bailey. If they are still in a position where they have no viable star, they may need to jettison Kessler in order to keep tanking in future years. Sort of like how we got rid of Gafford, who is a good player.
That logic applies for us too. If we don't land a top 3 guy in this draft, we are also without a star and may not want to add a good young vet like Kessler.
But if we land Dybantsa or Peterson (or maybe Boozer) while Utah is stuck with the 5th pick again, then maybe we would want a win-now vet like Kessler more so than Utah would and we would be willing to pay more for him.
Yeah, Markkanen and Kessler are playing so well that it's going to be pretty tough for Utah to jettison one or both of them and reset the rebuild again. Maybe they're a buyer in free agency and just go after another guard like Mathurin. Throw in a top 8 pick in this draft plus Bailey, Clayton Jr., Isaiah Collier and Filipkowski and that's a fairly talented team.

The more I think about it, the more it makes A TON of sense for Utah to resign Markkanen and Kessler, and then go sign Austin Reaves to a max contract. Utah would be loaded with 3 of the best white guys in the league! Round out the starting 5 with Bailey and their 2026 draft pick and that's a real good team.

Meh, his numbers are pretty ordinary for a center. Bagley is posting the same per minute numbers with much better efficiency (and more fouls).
