Herro + salary filler (Fontecchio) for Morant makes sense. Heat are always star chasing. Don't know that this one is ideal, especially with their culture, but hey, he's a star

I think I rather have Herro than Ja if I were the Heat. Also, they just got rid of Jimmy Butler; do the Heat want a shorter version of him and deal with all the drama again?

Riley is always chasing stars, and maybe they don't want to pay Herro. I agree though, I think the Griz would be happy to flip Ja for Herro.

Are you seriously comparing the character of Jimmy Butler to Ja Morant? That's wild. Those two guys are nothing alike.

IQ+Ochai+FRP to ATL

Trae to Mem

Ja to Tor

Read on Twitter

Thoughts?

Atl plays better without Trae, they get a PG that can play off-ball, hit 3s and comfortable to come off the bench if need be. And a decent 3&D wing. And FRP (could be another year if not '26)

Mem doesn't want to go full rebuild, Trae is more comfortable playing the way the Finnish HC wants and will bring butts to the seats

Tor gets an upgrade, a North-South threat to create more rim pressure, will also enchance the rollers efficiency.

Y'all aren't ready to see Tee Morant courtside drunk at every game, with a drink in his hand everytime the camera on him. That's why Ja isn't coming to Toronto.

This just sounds like a more committed version of the current raptors ambassador. Also I won't have to worry about Tee getting on the mic with matt and jack.

Morant is not a top 40 player anymore, I just don't see why anyone would want him eating up caspase with that super max contract of his.

What organization the player plays for also matters. BI having to play trash Pelicans team was a big negative. Memphis is also a couple tiera below the Raptors as an organization, so I'd be interested in seeing him with us. Helping a player improve behaviour is easier than improving talent.

Terrible fit for us. He needs the ball to be effective which neutralizes/cannibalizes our other talent. He doesn't provide spacing off ball. He isn't an upgrade as an on ball defender, and he's 40M+ AAV.

We'd have to trade some of our guys to make the spacing work and get a different coach with the gravitas to hold him accountable. Basically an organizational overhaul just to fit him in.

Are they? Memphis has made the playoffs 11 of the last 15 years. Wow 48, 51, and 55 games in the last 3 seasons they were not intentionally tanking.

How often do poor defending, inefficient, ball dominating players have meaningful success in the playoffs?

He's profiles similar Jalen Brunson or Trade Young without a lick of their shooting ability.

Morant would absolutely suck here. Guards who can't shoot aren't going to win you much, especially when they also hog the ball and force up poor looks.

He's not right now, but it depends on if he's quit on the team or not. Vince also looked like **** when we traded him, and then went on to play the best basketball of his career in NJ.

Actually a good contract. IQ is just 7 million less

He's under contract through 27-28 at 39 - 44.9 million. Quickly has an extra year but stays at 32 and change, so there's some pros and cons to both of them, contractually speaking.

Only reason we should do a Morant trade is if:

1) He plays good PoA defense
2) He has good b-ball IQ, can buy into the system, and be unselfish. We don't want a chucker taking away shots from more efficient options.

It's unlikely he'll have an RJ type improvement in terms of 3 point shooting. RJ has been around 36-40% at C&S 3's for his entire career. Morant's C&S hovers around 25-35%.

We're not really in a position to gamble on a low-level star. We're more in position to address the weaknesses of the team to go from a mid-level team to a high level contender. At the PG position, we need a Chauncey Billups, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Kyle Lowry type. Even Davion Mitchell is a better fit for us than IQ at the moment.

Agreed. I would rather the team go after Markkanen, than Morant. Jazz are going to probably trade him soon. That can't accumulate too many wins, since they are chasing a top lottery pick for this years draft.

Well, we need a pg - we don't really need a PF. But that aside, the whole point of going after JA is that he's a depressed asset at the moment and we can take a gamble on him for cheap.

With Lauri, Ainge is probably asking for 5 1sts.

Raps have enough ball handlers. They need more shooting, to open up the floor more.

And as usual, Ainge has waited to long to make a deal and screwed himself. Everyone knows he wants to tank for a high pick in this draft (they want AJ). So he'll be forced to sell low, so that Markkanen doesn't inflate their win totals.

This summer he traded a draft pick along with Sexton to the Hornets for nothing, just to move Sexton.

Raps will also need to include BI in the deal, for salary matching. So Utah would be getting talent back that it could move for other assets. I could see a three way deal where BI ends up with the Cavs, Garland goes to Utah (along with some other assets from the Raps - Ochai (expiring), Gradey?, Mogbo?) & Raps get Markkanen.

With Garland's injury history, Utah would have no problem shutting him down for the year to aid the tank.

I like markkanen. Please stop blowing up our team just to get him, especially when our depth is in big wings.

If we can get Lauri for scraps, cool. Since it’s ainge and that is unlikely, this feels worse than trading for Ja.

IMO this makes more sense with Ja going to Atl and Trae coming here. As for the first, it better be HIGHLY protected.

Trae would make us arguably the best offense in the league given our current status. He also sets us back (significantly?) on the defensive end, but his gravity is insane and he instantly improves our overall team. Think everything we wish IQ was but gives some of it back defensively and with boneheaded choices. We would get peak Trae and his shooting and Ja would be surrounded by shooters in Atlanta.
