Re: Maine Celtics (& Other G League Info), 2025-26 – Next Game: 7:00PM, Nov. 7
I would like to see Scheierman playing in Maine full-time to start the season.
He's too unathletic to compete at the NBA level with other fringe guys defensively or on the boards. Offensively I see what he could potentially bring as a facilitator/playmaker but he's not polished enough nor are we bad enough to just stick the ball in his hands and let him work through the growing pains involved in handling that function at the NBA level. And that's not so much about him and his play but just the rub for any non-PG whose value comes in being more involved/on-ball.
So since he can't compete with the likes of Hugo or Walsh when it comes to defense, hustle plays etc. and since he doesn't have the pedigree to warrant giving him the ball and letting him cook, so much of the narrative on him comes down to whether his shot is falling. When it does you can stomach his minutes and when it doesn't it feels like someone put the coach's kid in. And I'm honestly just not that confident that he's going to be a lefty Sam Hauser from three, so it feels like he's set up to fail.
I know the clock has been ticking for a while on Baylor since he's no spring chicken despite being only a sophomore but I think it makes sense to take a bit of a step back and put him in a position to see 30+ minutes combined with a role where he can play towards his skillsets. Obviously still working on the rest of his game, defense most importantly, but if he can prove that he's an every night 25+ ppg scorer who can also find his teammates on the offensive side of the court, I think he'll have earned a long enough leash at the NBA level to see if he can make the leap.
It's very similar to the JD Davison sitution. JD is/was a 4A player too good for G League but not good enough for the NBA, but also hamstrung by the fact that their style of play is more aligned with a higher talent player than where they are. Both aren't well rounded enough where they can't justify a rotation spot unless they're stellar offensively and to do that they need the ball in their hands, green light to fire away and a long enough leash to look ugly for a stretch of games as they adjust to trying to work their magic against the best of the best.
Right now Minott seems to have pole position for the rotational wing minutes with Baylor and Hugo getting about half of those. I'd rather send one of that trio (Baylor) to the G and bump up the others for a bit. Give it 15-20 games and re-assess.

To reduce the roster to the maximum 13 players, the Celtics waived Omar El-Sheikh, Vance Jackson, RJ Luis, Jr., and Nicolas Timberlake.

Austin is a jerk. Stole 2 2nds for $8M cap space and a G-league cut - from the team that raised him. smh.

Austin's trying to physically extract another 2nd round pick from him????
I kid, hope it's nothing major and he recovers well.
