One of those weird games where he really didn't play all that well but was a team best +17 and still scored 20.

Yeah at some point the first rounder trump card should be trashed for Walter, Battle is outplaying him in every aspect of the game. I used to think Battle couldn't defend but he's proving me wrong so far. He should just be ahead of Walter period.

I like the 905 idea to get him some reps. Cause quite frankly theres maybe 22-25 mins available between the 3 of Gradey/Battle/Walker. And the only shots they are (and should be) getting are spot up 3s and maybe the occasional drive/cut/transition layup. Let him try and get in a rhythm there.

Team gutted out the win when they weren't playing well. It's good to see they didn't fold when things weren't going their way and fought hard and played Raptor ball in the second half.

Imagine having a defense that gives up 120 OPP PPG, even if you have a miraculous run to the finals you'll run into OKC and get cooked because they're the complete package.

First 5 games 128 OPP PPG - 1-4 record
Last 4 games 101 OPP PPG - 4-0 record

defense has been better but ppg is a bit tricky b/c the bigger change is pace

last 4 games (not including tonight) had us 28th in pace at 98.88

the first 5 games, our paces was 7th at 105.50

so we made a concerted effort to slow the game down and it's helped our defense big time.

Glad we stopped that useless pressure defense lmao felt like we were giving bad offensive teams (mainly the Mavs) easy shots by breaking the press when theyd have a tougher time scoring executing against our half court defense.

I wouldn't call it useless pressure. A lot of really good defensive teams are still doing it because if you're forcing teams to go into their offenses later in the clock, it's going to lead to better defensive possessions. We just have to pick our spots for when it gets used and also execute it better.

Yeah, I think the G League does nothing for Battle while it would likely help Walter. It's also hard to justify benching Battle with how well he's done this season. It's actually pretty surprising Ochai seems completely in the dog house as well.

I bet Darko didn’t learn anything and will go back to using Walter over Battle.

This Raptors team is talented asf, even when they're messing up they're still in the game. The key will be for the starting 5 to get some continuity and grow together and find the best combination for the bench minutes.

Battle should be the primary shooter off the bench.

Something to be positive about is the starting lineup finally had a dominant stretch of play together in that 4th quarter. It's obvious we will do a lot of mixing and matching lineups but you still want your better players to be able to play together

Much respect to these guys showing some grit & just thuggin out to a W. They could’ve gotten frustrated and let the game get away but they just kept chipping away until they got the win, that’s a good sign of “character”.

As for ATL, they are actually tougher without Trae but yet could obviously use his scoring punch and that right there is the Catch 22 that almost perfectly sums up Trae’s “effect” or lack thereof depending on what side of the court we’re talking about and why I’d have no interest in trading for him…he basically gives up what he takes, sure he would be hitting some shots but we would’ve abused him on the other end. And with a guy as small as him, what he gives up defensively ruins his team’s overall defence because other guys gotta play outta position so they can’t be solid and can get run out of the gym as they did in the first game. They obviously had a better chance this game but that’s where their young wings (Zach & JJ) need to develop and they do need another reliable scorer but it also has to be someone who’s not a negative defensively so they can be a tough team on that end.

Anyways good dub, I would not trade for Trae but if I’m ATL, I’m really praying there’s some other team out there that is blinded by Trae’s offence but hope our FO sees through it.

We just need the Bulls to come back down to earth.

Bro Vucevic and Giddey playing outta their minds. Buzelis lookin very nice too. This is all without Coby White too btw.

Didn’t see this coming from them

I thought they had an easy early schedule, the Bulls.

I think he fully knows battle would be better, he's trying to develop the kids we have investment in.

Not really? Most of the teams they faced to open were playoff hopefuls. Granted, the Magic have been terrible to start but I digress.

Yeah it's pretty much this.

Remember: Walter was part of the Siakam trade (at least via the pick they got from the Pacers) and the front office talked him up as being who they'd select Top 10 so there's a lot of internal investment in him. Frankly, it hasn't been a strong start from Ja'Kobe but we'll see if he can re-discover his shot since the team as a whole hasn't been shooting great from outside - barring some notable exceptions of course.

Character win.

I liked the Dick Battle lineup. Lol that came out unintentionally.
