I actually think AB is showing some really good signs around the rim. If he sustained these offensive numbers without the turnovers it would be a breakout, but the turnovers are really hurting him.

Just let him play defense, attack the basket and shoot corner 3s and I think we will be happy with him. I don't think he has the ball handling or decision making to full time playmake. Set him free from that duty, the burden will be lifted and he is going to be fine.

But I mean that brings us to our bigger problem is that we just don't have anyone that great at making plays for other, which is one of the reasons he's been forced to handle the ball in the first place. They probably do just need to lean on Paolo, Franz and Suggs given what we have. I'd consider some point Franz minutes again.

This. He is - at best - a developing wing/swingman.

So, we're 3 deep at two positions and don't have a serviceable PG or C

I rather have Cole than Tyus. At least Tyus has been a great Vet voice off the bench what I have noticed.

He is horrible. I never wanted him (nor Ingles nor KCP). So that the "fans wanted him so much" phrase is not really true. I don't want to hear that this is the example of fans don't know nothing about basketball. I think only 30% of Magic fans wanted him but they were really loud. I hope we will get somebody for him and Jett somebody who can contribute.

I'm sure they would have brought Cole back at the minimum but that was possible since we traded him. Please correct me if I'm wrong but you usually have to wait a while (a year later or at the start of the next FA period) to resign the player.

Google AI says:

No, an NBA team cannot sign a player who was traded and then waived by another team in the same season
, but the player can be re-signed by his original team after being cut. However, the team that waived the player still has to pay the player their guaranteed salary, and the new team must sign the player to a new contract and abide by all salary cap rules and other restrictions

Still kind of confusing but I was always told no, so I reckon they would have to wait a season. Maybe they cannot claim him off waivers, but could sign him after?

IMO this says more about Mosely than it does Tyus Jones…

But I don’t think people really want to go there with that assessment.

It's just an easy cop out everyone is using for every struggle on this team.

I can see the arguments for using Bane different ways (even though I think he's had tons of open shots he's missed), so the creativity with Mose/Prunty should improve there, although last game showed a lot of promise.

Tyus is playing on-ball in high percentages (his natural role), missing open shots/layups, and is being the bad defender he's always been which is why Phoenix fans were happy to let him go.

He's obviously not a 2/1/1 player on 34/13 percentages, but the struggle is squarely on him not delivering quite yet. Hell, the biggest gripe on coaching for Tyus would probably be that he has to be able to play through his struggles for longer (25-28 minutes compared to 13), and the 13 is already pissing fans off.

I CAN see his role being valuable with Moe Wagner and that rapport mirroring a Mo-Joe sort of connection, but it's not clicking yet.

Why?

So I end up writing dissertations nobody reads? Lol no thanks. I’m past that. You either get it or don’t.

Tyus Jones isn’t a good defender. He’s terrible. Not being able to utilize him in any possible bench lineup is kind of crazy though.

We have guards that soak up on-ball reps, so his role and fit are questionable out of the gate. He's not doing himself any favors with this small sample slump while bleeding points with his extremely poor defense at the point of attack.

Those factors are coaching agnostic.

The spacing/tempo mismatch is coaching since we just don't tend to run the offense through guards in the first place so a low usage guard is going to starve.

He was always going to serve a niche look and given his slump it's just not working out. Not Mosley's fault imo.

PS. I read all your posts and enjoy them, just not as much I enjoy being a contrarian.

The thing with Tyus is… he doesn’t look to score… then he gets paired with Goga and JI too.

Tyus may not be great but it makes little sense why he is that bad. You can blame a combination of things, to me the lead blame flowers can be given to the coach. Followed by Tyus himself. Lastly, because I love it Hennigan.

We have literally waltz corpse level PG into the offense and made them look "ok". So in some hands, Tyus needs to figure it out, at the same time, the number being as bad as they it can't be just a "Tyus" thing you have to look at the coach who handles rotations and matchups to get him the help he needs to minimize his weaknesses game to game.

Unless you want to sell me on "we just brought him in to develop Jase / Black and thats it". Ok. Sure. I kinda buy that.

I agree but I dont blame Mos. Its so early in the season to blame him for the right and wrong combination. There’s a period of trial and error.
