rip Lenny. He was the Cavs coach who brought us back to respectability as a franchise in the 80's/90's.

Never heard a bad word spoken about him, one of the good guys.

RIP Lenny.

Lenny Wilkens was of the smartest basketball minds out there and a genuinely good dude.

one of the few great players who was also a very good coach. Sad to hear he has passed. Few guys left from that era.

Almost 50 years between his playing and coaching career. He really gave his life to the NBA. RIP.

Sad news. A legend and, by all accounts, a good man.

I hope Shaq remembers that Wilkens did in fact play in the NBA.

Well known in the Pacific NW as a player coach in Portland during Bill Walton's first season in the league
and went on to win an NBA championship in Seattle in 1979.

He really did seem to carry himself as a player and coach with real class.

I really enjoyed watching him play; such a consummate quarterback with outstanding court vision. While he never had a true jump shot (at least not in the way modern fans would recognize), he was effective with a one-hand push shot from the outside and his drives to the basket once the defender came up to defend against it. Elite playmaker who finished in the top 5 in assists/game 10 times. And definitely among the best of all-time in terms of basketball IQ. Kinda sad that most fans today only remember him as a coach; such great memories from watching him play.

My dad and I were talking about him recently. Salute to a true New York basketball legend and NBA lifer. Not many get to do it for as long as he did as a player and coach.

Hell of a life and career.
