A part of me would rather have Ja but trading for him after the Miles stuff is just dumb.
So... Melo better get healthy lol.
trae has 2 yrs on contract
melo has 4 yrs
shorter deal digs us out quicker. trae at least keeps us entertaining in interim.

If we're moving off Melo due to availability issues Anthony Davis is not a player I would want in return.

How they go about doing that is the big question. They have been talking about changing the culture for 2 years now. And that to me has always felt a little bit like a dog whistle saying, melo/miles are part of the culture problem from the previous regime.
The rookies looking solid if anything, would be more of a reason to keep Melo. They are all role players for the most part who are going to be valuable right now on rookie contracts, so we should try to win now. Trading Melo and going further in the tank makes little sense because you aren't building around the rookies- they are complementary guys but if they have nobody to complement, then they aren't that valuable.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
to get anything decent for Ball, we have to add something juicy to him to encourage another team to take the risk.
depending on what the team has learnt about Miller, I would consider including him.
So Garland for Lamelo, Miller for Strus. Has to be separate trades due to the 2nd apron for Cavs. They get an instant increase in size for their backcourt with Ball and/or Miller, as well as talent for the finals.
Garland gets the keys as a dynamic scoring point guard. I would definitely be booed and ridiculed for doing it, but unless I get some truly encouraging miraculous news from Dr's, I'm ready to move on from the injured duo.
Garland, Sion, Kon are our starters.
Harper was another target I'd try, but I doubt Spurs would want Ball there.
I'd give up one of the 2 for Sarr for Washington. He could play alongside both Kalk and Moose as a 4/5, he continues to grow well. Again I doubt they give him up.
It's a little grim. Need the struggling side with the ambitious owner.
The target has to be reasonably young as well I believe, we aint winning **** this year, its about developing for a year or 2 ahead.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
I know Spurs are not likely to do this because winning teams tend to not trade good players but when Fox and Harper fully fit remember Castle talked about wanting to be a lead guard...so when all 3 are healthy Spurs have Fox Harper Castle who all want to be lead guard, but Spurs don't have a quality SF like Brandon Miller
would Spurs deal Castle for Brandon Miller (after he returns and proves he's healthy) + '27 DAL or MIA 1st (health insurance)?
ps I love Miller I think he can be an All Star (Castle too though) but in terms of team fit
I feel like Miller (when healthy) with Fox and Harper would balance Spurs roster better than Castle
and Castle awesome fit w Hornets Rooks

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
I wouldn't give up any additional assets with Miller in a trade for Castle. I haven't seen Castle play hardly at all, so idk if I'd want to trade for him, but that is kind of an interesting idea if they wanted to do it straight up. Ive tended to think Miller is the better player but Castle is an intriguing fit (also 2 years younger) and I think it would help potentially save LaMelos ankles if they could pair him with an another lead guard and transition him to more off ball play. Setting San Antonio up with Harper/Miller/Wemby seems kind of gross though.
Id still try to do move some other assets for PJ and Gafford and roll with a lineup of LaMelo ~ Castle ~ Kon ~ PJ ~ Gafford
Imagine all the Ichiro content that we'd get if they trade for Castle.

And so would we lol
I'm not trading all that for a guy who doesn't even look like the best rookie in his own class.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
Sad news from Realville…Hornets are stuck. They operate in a vicious cycle, which clouds any decision making from an already timid Jeffiepoo. Melo gets healthy, scores big points and looks good, so he’s part of our core and going nowhere! OOPPS…hurt again, maybe we should trade him, but who’s gonna give us good value for him when he’s always hurt?
Even worse news from Realville…every time Melo goes out with the SAME PROBLEM, it lowers his overall value…forever. Even when healthy, Hornets can’t hope to get the price they could have a year ago, or two years ago.
So, Hornets brass need to get their sacks pulled up, decide to deal him as soon as they can get him healthy for at least several weeks at a time, and NOT GET FOOLED AGAIN by his performance…no matter how tempting. Melo is like that used Porsche 924S I bought once. Man it looked good, performed, was sweet on the back roads! But I couldn’t keep it out of the repair shop. After a year I sold it, lost money, but got rid of a constant problem. The guy who bought it wanted to use it for an SCCA racing car (he was a college professor who liked to work on those cars). Later sent me a video from within the car showing it running hot laps on the Atlanta road course!
Point of the story: if they trade Melo for something less than his older paper value, so what? Move on. If he eventually is a star who can stay healthy (I wouldn’t count on that part), so be it. Get some quality player(s) who can be part of the new core. It will be hard enough to get any decent return at this point. But once he’s back on the court long enough to give some glimpse of promise and temptation, Jeffie better bite the bullet and deal.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
Well this is gonna be a interesting trade deadline
Mavs fired Nico. Surely they are gonna tear it down and rebuild around Flagg.
I expect Kyrie and AD to be traded before the trade deadline.

Re: Fake Trade Thread #7
Really hope they tear down and that 2027 pick of theirs that we have shoots up in value.
Does increase the possibility that we're trade partners if we offer them their pick back so they have incentive to tank.
