Worst current GM in the NBA?

Post#1 » by Homer38 » Tue Nov 11, 2025 4:56 pm

Now that Nico Harrison has been fired this morning, who is the worst current GM in the league?

Joe Dumars?
Who are the others who deserve a big mention?

I'd argue Joe Dumars was the worst before Harrison got fired.

Joe was a contender even with Nico still employed - he's clearly king of the hill now.
James Jones was pretty horrible but Suns finally fired him this year.

Honorable mention to Morey+Brand duo - they cleared capspace, signed two injury prone older players to enormous contracts they could not hope to justify and are sitting duck right now - at least they do know how to draft talent - I'd give them that.

Sean Marks is on the come up. Traded Cam Johnson for subpar value in MPJ. Claxton is still there for no reason

Then drafted Demin, a guard with a similar profile to Josh Giddey, even when he had the assets to get the man himself. Then drafted 2 more uninspring guard prospects. And then missed out on Coward.

Pretty sure the 'Grizzlies' are about to trade Ja for Rui and Bronny so I'll say Zach Kleiman.

How about the Hornets GM for building nothing viable in years. They haven't made the Playoffs in (about to be) 10 seasons. They are no closer to contending now than they were like 5 years ago. Many teams have torn down, then rebuilt themselves in that time span. Hornets are still in complete no mans land.

He got a better player and a 1st round pick, that trade was an accomplishment

Dumars. Isiah if he counts as running the Suns. Whoever keeps Charlotte at 25-30 wins forever (situation so forgettable I don't know who it is).

Joe Dumars

I don't even care what they say about Derik Queen, like Tim Duncan had "high praise for him" oh wow, Tim Duncan is just saving face for Dumars

Even if Queen is awesome, what are the odds he is remotely better than anyone that is top 5 in this upcoming draft?

You trade CJ Mccollum for Jordan Poole, what a pointless trade. Jordan Poole is miscast. Dude is a glorified Peyton Pritchard. He is not winning games by himself, he's your spark plug off the bench guy.

Then what, you draft Fears, bank on Zion, oh and Dejounte Murray? Does that guy still exist??? It says he won't even be back until the new year?? Good LORD.

Look, the roster's a mess, but you had an off-season to do ANYTHING. Like it's not like teams are going to say "no we won't trade for Herb Jones or Trey Murphy, we don't want Jose Alvarado. Yves Missi? Who needs him as a back-up? Kevon Looney, let's throw him some money.

I mean nothing about their decisions made any sense in the off-season and the on the court product only re-emphasizes this.

He also trade the pacers first round pick!

Marks might be bad but this isn't a great explanation for why. That trade was about the unprotected first that comes after the Jokic Nuggets' run will be over, that was 100% the motivation there. MPJ and Cam are both irrelevant for the Nets, they just got paid that 1st to absorb MPJ's contract and they were so far below the cap that that shouldn't impact significant moves this year or next. (MPJ's deal only runs til next season.)

Giddey was maybe available if you also wanted to pay him $100m, but we're not even sure about that (Chicago wanting to hold out to pay him as little as possible doens't mean they didn't want him). Plus they're clearly trying to lose now so bringing in Giddey rn not only costs them some tank juice but creates an odd situation for a rebuild. Giddey seems like a good player to make a decent team pretty good, but not a great franchise cornerstone, and also a very hard player to build around. And of course he looks a lot more reliable as an investment now than he did a few months back.

I don't like the picks they made this year but we've all been wrong about that a million times so gotta reserve judgment for a while. Also worth noting that Coward is 3.5 years older than Demin, he was expected to be a more polished prospect right away.

This is crazy talk. Dumars is doing a wonderful job securing the Hawks' future.

Nico was just a yes-man for his owners/the league. There are loads of choices. It's too hard to settle on just one.
