This depends on how ugly things get in Memphis, but I think that “late December” line from Jon is a HUGE giveaway that my Naz framework is what Minnesota is sniffing around with (given that his trade eligibility is January 15th.
Naz Reid, Conley/Donte, Rob Dillingham, and Terrence Shannon Jr. (along with pick swaps)
That is a mediocre package that would allow Memphis to reset with some youth. I’m still hesitant on trading for Ja Morant, but the age and contract timeline makes sense.
Ja Morant is fool's gold.
He will have one game where he looks like a superstar and 10 where he is a drag on his team winning.
He's always hurt.
And he has been very bad and inefficient this year.
Most I would even consider is Naz/Conley/Rob. No TJ no pick swaps.
A couple more bad/injured years and he could be dipping his toe into DeAngelo Russell territory.
If you give up a couple of iffy contracts for a 2 year experiment, it's not an awful trade.
But I wouldn't give up anything of long term value for him right now.
But you will have no bench with all those big salaries and if his attitude goes south it will implode the entire chemistry of the team.
