Get Sabonis out of that circus in SAC and I believe he can rejuvenate his career. I've always been a fan despite his defensive weaknesses. Monk would also be a nice addition to any contending roster.

Honestly, the 2031 pick could be worth targeting....

Sabonis is horrible in post season play though, like beyond bad.
Also Monk kind of sucks now, that one good season where he was in running for 6th man of the year and his defense looked decent , is a distant memory.

If we wanted to completely abandon defense I could see targeting Sabonis....but then, he somewhat duplicates the Julius role so then is it really solving anything?
Monk makes just $231,499 more than DiVincenzo+Dillingham, so that wouldn't work. I doubt there's much appealing there.

So was Julius, supposedly.

Well I ain’t taking that chance with a player making 45 and 48 million in next two seasons..Rather just stick with Rudy.
I wonder where Zach will go? I think we are about 4-5 years away from him coming back on the vet minimum.

I think this is a really interesting quote. He definitely has his risks, but I still think this is the kind of lead guard I could see us target.

Sounds like they wouldn't accept anything less than Anthony Edwards for him. Should we pull the trigger

Re: Trade Talk (Part 18): Early Season Panic Edition
The problem I see is that with the way some of the guys are playing, you can't really make a trade unless it's going to be something that really pushes you over the top. The problem is those types of trades cost a lot of assets that we don't have. Still seems like a starting point guard or a backup center should be our main targets. The only thing I'm confused about right now is with some of the blowouts we've been having why Finch hasn't been trying to get Joan minutes with the starters to help his development. If he is so far away that that isn't an option, why not get him to Iowa so he can just play. As far as starting point guard, obviously we've been putting some points up starting DD there, but we also haven't played high pressure defensive teams and seen success with it. I have been in favor of trading for guys like Sexton, or others, but current barometer would say that's probably not a great idea. As frustrating as it is, it's probably best that we just stay the course a while longer and see how things shake out. Hopefully Shannon will be back soon so we can see another scorer come off the bench.

One of the most exciting things about Beringer is that he's so green that he has no bad habits. Letting him go learn bad habits in the GLeague doesn't sound appealing at all.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 18): Early Season Panic Edition
I am not too sure about Ja, but I do know that we absolutely cannot run with the same squad if we meet OKC in the playoffs. We were completely outplayed in the backcourt.
Ja would bring a different element to the team and think he would thrive here with Ant. I believe Ja’s current poor play can be attributed to the current situation in Memphis; I do think he’ll flip the switch, if moved here, and be that dog that we despised playing against 3 years ago in the playoffs - is this the kind of person we want on the team, though?
Right now, we are playing great ball but we are not going to beat OKC with essentially the same squad.
I prefer guys like Jrue Holiday and Derrick White but don’t think those guys are attainable this season.

Re: Trade Talk (Part 18): Early Season Panic Edition
MN Out: Mike Conley, Terrence Shannon, Leonard Miller
MN In: Daniel Gafford, $1,283,475, Jahmir Young
Dallas Out: Daniel Gafford, Caleb Martin, Naji Marshall
Dallas In: $4,115,656, Terry Rozier (buyout), Leonard Miller, Keshad Johnson
Miami Out: $-5,399,131, Terry Rozier, Keshad Johnson, Jahmir Young
Miami In: Mike Conley, Terrence Shannon, Caleb Martin, Naji Marshall
Why For MN: Daniel Gafford takes the frontcourt power and presence to a higher level. We force Dillingham evaluation from Finch. Jahmir Young is a 25 yo udfa in the Miami system, which means he's like 3 years away from signing a 4/55 mil contract for some random playoff team in the east. The Naz part-time @ the 3 experiment will have to go from rare oddity to regular implementation. This could be a pro or con depending on perspective, but I'm going pro because it can reset his defensive identity around more floor-bound, footspeed-based defensive responsibilities - which are his relative strength - and further away from vertical contest responsibilities - which he's clearly struggled dearly in. Could be a scenario where his offensive firepower drops 15%, but I think his defensive stawartitude increases like 25%. The net of that of course being incalculably large. They also get a little over a mil + cap clearance which is always gleefully accepted.
Why Not For MN: Possibly underestimating Conley's leadership and/or Shannon's ceiling. Point guard situation ends up in a more dire state if youth don't step up.
Why For Dal: The #4 highest team payroll - they need to start reducing at all opportunities and getting everything clean asap so the Flagg voyage can officially launch. The extraneous veterans with middling to low value should be the first to go. They're just money for a couple extra wins you don't want right now and Dallas is now trying to get in on this spicy top 5. That process has to start asap because you **** around a couple extra weeks and now you're picking 10th. They gain a nice 4 mil off the cap this year. I feel like I might be underestimating the current and future savings this deal would have from a tax perspective, but not totally clear, so just leaving neutral. I'm assuming its nothing that couldn't be balanced out with extraneous 2nd rounders everybody seems to have lying about. Also Dallas gets a couple lower tier, but worth evaluating young forwards.

Why Not For Dal: Maybe the 10 million dollar rando vet market is more robust than where I'm valuing it at
Why For Mia: They are off to a nice start, and this solidifies the team depth to a mid-tier playoff seed level. They send off the Rozier headache to Dallas to workout the buyout on their end. They take in a little money, but nothing crazy as far as commitment. Martin is their boy. Marshall is in his prime and a solid 2 way wing. Conley gives them a great PG floor that they don't have. Shannon gives them a higher pedigree of wing prospect.
Why Not For Mia: Maybe messes up some sort of special cap space plan they have, idk

Mark Williams and Colin Gillespie for DDV?
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

How does that make sense for Phoenix?
They give up their starting Center (who is off to a really good start) and the guy who may be their best PG for another SG?
It’s a no-brainer for us.

Guess it comes down to who else they could get for expiring contracts. Richards instead of Williams is probably more realistic.
