His elite speed should have been obvious. In fact elite speed made John Wall the #1 pick of his draft class and he also had a suspect shot, which never panned out in the NBA like it has for Maxey.

COVID weirdness.

Ugh I forgot about that draft, where the Warriors picked Wiseman #2 after just 2 college games.

They were trying to trade down but they should have drafted any number of players drafted later, instead of worrying about drafting players too high.

His shot being pretty bad was definitely a concern. He was also not great defensively at Kentucky. And he played with a sophomore Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley, so it wasn't really his show. I think he was (obviously) undervalued, but he fell a bit too far. I had him way, way wrong in that draft. I think I wanted RJ Hampton or something.

I remember coach Calipari publicly stating that Maxey was going to be a good one at the pro level. There was a ton of guard depth on that Kentucky roster. Tyler Herro included.

College coaches are always going to cape for their players, especially since Calipari's pitch to recruits is that he can get them into the NBA, as first round picks if not lottery picks.

He's getting very close to that peak Dame Lillard level we talked as his absolute ceiling a few years ago.

Complete stud that has maximized his potential.

When i see him being already a better pg than Ben i think we should trade Simmons asap for Harden( with picks) before they notice how limited Simmons is...

I was reading this post from the begining and found my reply above, from january of 2021,more than one year before we traded Simmons for Harden. I´m from the future  Imagine if we traded Simmons that year... Although we still got Harden, we could probably get more from him back then, when the league wasnt that aware of his shooting problems...

Congrats to Tyrese.... 10 straight games to start season with 25 and 5 assists Came to an end today, but with a big win. Only AI has done this in NBA history, who did it for 11 games.

Kid had one of the best starts to a season ever

I think Tyrese can pull out a 60 spot this season.... Congrats on setting the mark for the entire NBA scoring right now

If you look at his advanced numbers two things jump to my eyes:

(1)His Defensive BPM is neutral on a bad defensive team, which is pretty impressive. and (2)even when he's leading the NBA in minutes and is a pretty dominant ball guy his USG is hovering around 30, which means he's not a heliocentric guy.

I expect his shooting to go down a bit eventually, because shooting 42% on 9 attempts is basically Curry territory. If he stays there, his peak is actually starting to get on to MVP territory

Well right now he's playing like an MVP candidate.

Yeah, i think he will probably shoot around 35-37% from 3. He shoots a lot of hard shots to keep above 40% from all season. Only if Embiid and George can play almost all season i think he can keep it above 40%, since he gets a lot of easy shots with his 2 man game with the big fella.

Maxey has shattered glass ceilings his entire tenure as a Sixer and has done so while exhibiting all the leadership behaviors you would hope for.

Having seen him improve year over year, I thought I've seen his peak after the disastrous '24-'25 season and was even willing for the Sixers to move on from him to build around the younger/cheaper guards if there was a deal out there for a good, young forward (e.g. Banchero). How foolish was I?

Watching him improve in scoring, defense, and clutchness, while taking ownership of the team and become a legitimate MVP candidate has been remarkable to watch. Despite how this season ends up, it's clear to me that Maxey is THE building block for this franchise and at this point I don't think I can put a limit on how good he'll be.

I agree. I think he can increase his 3pt percentage playing more off ball. He's an elite catch and shoot player from 3 and truly has been since Harden days. What's new is his off the dribble 3 percentage.... I clearly see the difference that he's made with that shot and it started last year but he's pretty much perfected it this year. Instead of taking those huge leaps back on the step back He's way more balanced, slowing down a tick And actually doesn't even jump as high on this three-point pull-ups. He used to make that shot look so hard, now he's super comfortable with it to the point of basically mastering it and looking like Harden as a jump shooter, except he's better as a shooter.... And while moving and leading the league in miles per game like Curry did.... He adds a much different layer than Curry who is crafty and an elite ball handler along with greatest shooter.... Maxey is an elite shooter, but his off ball movement and resets are actually to set up drives to the paint and teams have to respect that and fear that as much as his shot too due to being the fastest player in the league.

The fact that he's also a plus defender is so impressive... He moves his feet with his athleticism, is a playmaker with blocks and steals. Gets into bigger players, but great players can shoot over him or over power him... But he's not exactly someone you need to run a Steph Curry system for, with the double switches

54 points with 3 blocks and 3 steals and 9 assists is crazy.... And he didn't feel like he was just in crazy rhythm and was gunning (why I feel like he has a 60 pt performance in him).
