- Establish connections to Luka camp to feel out if a reunion in 3 years is somewhat possible
- Try to get a glimpse of Kyrie and AD together on this team before the deadline (if Kyrie's health allows). If it works, let this season run out.
- Have a long conversation with Jason Kidd and check if he's still with his mind on the team (Luka trade, New York interest in summer time). If not, let him go
- Explore the market and see if there are positive deals for the Mavs org. I see people here talking about trading everyone, but if you're having a firesale you'll get discounts. I only trade my good players if there is a great deal available (see second point)

To everyone saying they should trade AD: who is going to take him and what would they be willing to give up? Genuinely curious, because I'm not seeing a lot of potential moves here.

Re: You're hired as the Mavericks new GM. What is your gameplan for the next 5 years?
We all know the smart drill:
Tank this year
Dump AD for picks
Find suitor for corpses of Klay Thompson for proper funeral ceremony of his retirement
Play Kyrie just enough to get people intrigued before finding fool to take off 35 years old guard
HOWEVER, trading AD, on his crazy $54M salary is VERY hard.
They need to target delusional pretenders to rob them picks from years to come, so they can get great assets once delusional pretender slips. But most such teams don't have much to give back. And most of them don't own picks.
Best trade i could come up with, for Dallas would be something like: Pistons get AD, Dallas gets: Tobby Harris, Stewart, Ivey and 1-2 first round picks
Or, epic Pelicans move: They send Murray & Murphy, along with pick(s) for AD & Jaden Hardy ( who gets into TPE to make trade possible ).

Ideal geriatric delusional pretender for AD trade are Warriors. That team will be in complete tear down in matter of two years- max, but they don't have much to give back to Dallas.

1. Develop the current young core (Flagg, Lively) as much as possible
2. Accept this season as dead and buried and tank for this loaded draft class
3. Showcase AD and look to trade him at the deadline (or sooner if he's getting in the way of the tank) for as many young promising players/draft picks as possible. AD has to go no matter what, for the fans to be able to move on from the stench of the most disastrous trade in sports history
4. Once Kyrie returns also showcase him for an eventual trade
5. Move forward with Flagg, Lively, 2026 first round pick and whatever else they get in the above trades as their new core going forward

I'd trade AD, Kyrie and Klay for picks and players who fit Flagg's timeline better. I'd try to build around Flagg, Lively and Christie. With a bit of luck and if Flagg develops as everybody hopes he does then in 3 or 4 years they can become a real contender. Basically they need to replicate what OKC did with SGA.

Nah seriously, firing Jason Kidd first and foremost needs to be first on the agenda.
I don't think The Mavs ownership will ever sign off on an AD trade because that would be a blunt admission they stuffed up big time on the Luka trade.
Alas I genuinely fear/dread there will be no cause for hope or optimism for Mavs fans under their new owners.
A strong part of me actually thinks a Donald Sterling type scandal involving their owners and forced to sell the team would be the best thing for their fans going fowards.
Sheldon & Miriam Adelson are way more radioactive than Sterling. Look them up. So radioactive that the son-in-law was appointed as the face of the franchise.
If Mavs fans wanna drive their owners out of town, there is more than enough dirty laundry to get it done.
Psychotic. It didn’t make sense. I don’t know how you make it make sense

Re: You're hired as the Mavericks new GM. What is your gameplan for the next 5 years?
In my opinion, the Mavs simply need two players, a veteran starting point guard and a backup point guard.
These two point guards need to be very, very strong leaders. One of them would have to instantly become the vocal leader of the team. A point guard who can become the vocal leader of the team is paramount.
Ideally, these two point guards should be tall enough to guard SGs so Irving doesn't have to. They should also be very strong defensively, very unselfish, and possess a decent enough jump shot.
This team is good. They just need a very strong leader and Irving back.
Ironically, if this team had Jason Kidd at 35, all of their problems would be solved.

Not owing own 1sts after this season really squashes a tear-down-rebuild.
Davis/Lively/Martin (or Christie)/29 Lakers 1st owed
FOR
Siakam/Nembhard/Huff
Pacers extreme load manage Davis and can tank better in 2025/26 while having a team ready for Hali when he returns.
Mavs retool. Nembhard can run point until Irving healthy and those two work together well upon return.

True. Which is why I would feel the situation out. If Luka's camp indicates that it's a possibility and shares some conditions, I can work with that.

Nico's firing represents very little in the rectification of all things rotten. Fans needs to keep the pressure up. The owners only care about money right? so hurt their bottom line. Block their Casino endeavor. Boycott the team. When the owners see red, they'll sell the team

Trade AD at the deadline for a prospect and multiple 1sts.
Try to trade Klay if you can at the deadline (hoping he starts shooting normally again).
Wait until Kyrie comes back and build his value a little and try to trade him for a a couple 1sts.
Rebuild around Flagg, hopefully have good lottery picks the next couple seasons, and go from there.

I could see Miami, Orlando, Milwaukee, Boston, and the Warriors going for him.
Warriors are specifically a team that may go all in as they are trying to maximize the end of Steph's career and give him one last shot for a ring. They could give up nice young prospects like Kuminga, Podziemski and some picks. AD would be an incredible fit alongside Curry if healthy.

Fire up the tank and bottom out this year, trade AD and Kyrie for picks (both are grade to trade for picks because you know some years they will play 40 games only and help those picks blossom.
