Why are people so opposed to changes? Like people act like changing the format personally offends them. On on hand people say that the issue is the players are not trying, but then immediately say go back to West vs East as if that would make them try.

NBA needs to stop thinking any format change will work. Go back to East v West.

The issue is the players don't care. You basically tell the players to pout in some effort or they will just cancel the whole game and all the bonuses that come with it.

And if that doesn't work just honestly cancel it.

Theyre never gonna cancel the all star weekend based on the fact that its a huge money generator. People pay thousands for tickets just to brag that they went and the merch sales are crazy. Also generates tons of money for the city its in through hotels and restaurants.

It's hard to get the players to play hard for an all-star game when they don't play hard during the regular season.

How about every player has to put 20% of their salary into the pot? winner takes all.

I don't know what the point of making changes to the ASG is, because it never addresses the root issue of players simply not playing hard or even to a "Saturday at the park" level for 90 percent of the game.

I don't think you can give HCA in the Finals on the basis of the ASG (hard pass at that), but my idea that might be half-baked is to pick a random team within the winning conference, and have them swap draft order with the closest team higher than them (from the losing conference) in the next year's first round draft.

So for example, if the West won the AS game and the Kings got randomly selected and randomly slotted into the 5th pick in the draft and the Pacers 4th pick, the pick order would swap to Kings 4th and Indiana 5th instead of the original draft order.

A small, random(ish) advantage that likely would lead to trivial differences most years, but potentially very big ones (like if the swap led a team to being able to draft a Wemby/Shaq/Lebron type guy, etc...) in a very small subset of cases.
