Luka seems to be in a good place now. Physically, mentally, and overall.

I would argue that right Luka is in the best physical shape of his career and The Lakers are reaping the dividends.

Question is, did The Mavs themselves mismanage Luka and his weight and physical conditioning rather than the other way around ?

It has to be galling for Dallas fans but Luka hasn't looked this happy and vibrant on court since his rookie season.
LA gave him a different perspective. One that Dallas could never do. I am happy for Luka as long as he's happy so I agree with you that he seems very happy.

I do genuinely feel rotten/desperately sorry for Mavs fans though.
Hope the real truth comes out one day as to the reasons The Mavs traded him.

LeBron went back to his city and he chose to leave in the first place. Luka didn't want to leave his city.

Like LeBron returning to Ohio there’s good reason to expect Luka will return home…to Slovenia.

Luka:

"I am leaving a city that will always feel like a home away from home"

"I wanted so badly to bring you a championship"

"Dallas is a special place, and Mavs fans are special fans"

And before you act like this these were words from a typical PR farewell statement, keep in mind Luka reportedly cried all night after he was traded, and cried in front of Dallas fans as they cheered him on all game long and will continue to do that every time he plays at the AAC.

Something to consider! Enjoy him for the meantime :)

Well, I'll say this much:

I think it would be cool if it - Luka back to the Mavs - ends up happening like a storybook, and it's not impossible.

Very possible. The Lakers experiment can easily blow up, and I can easily see Luka in FA 2029 deciding to go to a Mavs team with potentially max cap space and some nice young talent (with a Flagg in his early prime).

The difference is that Lebron was born and grew up around 40 miles away from Cleveland, while for Luka it was around 5500 miles^^. So he has no connection to Dallas or Texas besides playing there for 7 years.

For the last time he called Dallas his home away from home. He did that again literally last night. You don't have to be born in a place to consider it your home.

Luka:
"Look, I mean, the city of Dallas, fans, players, they're all have a special place in my heart. I thought I was gonna stay there forever. But I didn't. So they'll always be a special place for me, always I can call it home."

I get it. From a fans perspective one wishes that he comes back. Being realistic, this is at the most 1% chance of happening. Just think about what would need to happen just from the Mavs side for Luka to have any interest. The team would need to be sold to new ownership for starters and well thats not going to happen. That is where this thought starts and dies. You would need complete ownership change to even start the question unfortunately. Then you would need to have the right players etc but honestly it all starts with new ownership.

It´s of course possible that it happens, it was more to point out that Lebron´s case was a pretty special situation that rarely occurs. There were countless players that enjoyed playing for their franchise and never went back later in their career, even when they had the chance. So I don´t see what makes Luka´s situation that much more special, also considering how the new ownership handled the whole situation. You also have to consider that he moved as a 13 year old to Madrid and stayed there for the same duration, meaning he is pretty used to adapting to completely different environments and finding a new home.

People are pointing to the things Dumont said about Luka in the media, which were ignorant and disrespectful as hell. Personally, if I were Luka I wouldn't go back unless there were new owners. But LeBron went back to Cleveland even after what Dan Gilbert said which in my mind was far worse. Sometimes people forgive and forget to get what they want, and I think Luka does deep down want to win with Dallas. Look at all his media quotes, even yesterday. He's clearly still bothered by it.

Dallas maybe was special to him but you are kidding yourself if you keep believing and hoping that Luka would return to the Mavericks. He will retire a Laker.

1. If somebody told me 1 year ago Luka will be traded I would said 0% chance
2. If somebody told me trade package will be Anthony Davis and 1 first I would said 0% chance
3. So there is way bigger chance he goes back to Dallas than first 2 things to happen, and they did happen...

Just being realistic, that's all. Luka, who is a legit top3 player in the world, is now playing for the most famous basketball franchise in the world, in a huge market. This is a match made in heaven and do not see him ever leaving.
