Is Ace Bailey closer to Durant or Michael Porter Jr.?

Post#1 » by dirkdiggler4177 » Wed Nov 12, 2025 8:56 am

From what I saw in college and now in the NBA, his shot selection seems to be bad, but he makes them. It does seem, though, that once he gets the ball, it's not leaving him.
So his shot seems superb, but his IQ seems to be very low. I am really of? Just wondering what you guys think of him?

I think we all know the answer to this. People search for new KD every other year, like KD is not one of the most unique and biggest talents of all time.

Unless the kid comes in and immediately looks like a generational talent and puts up 20 ppg in his first season, the answer is always the other player in the comparison and not KD

MPJ, Rashard Lewis, Jabari Smith Jr. Something in that lane.

Why is KD even being mentioned? At this point I'll be ecstatic if he ends up as good as MPJ.

And you're right, he's got gorgeous midrange shot, but a dreadfully low BBIQ. He continues to look lost out there.

KD was criticized non stop on here his first year for being an inefficient chucker. He was not seen as a generational talent at all his rookie year. Just throwing it out there.

It reminds me when some posters in the Knicks fórum thought that Kevin Knox would be the next KD after a great Summer League.

Thread title is about whether Ace is closer to Porter or someone much better than Porter, so the answer has to be Porter, because Ace has done nothing to put him debate with Porter yet.

This.

He’s prob closer to 9th 10th or 11th man than projecting to peak MPJ.

The funny thing is MPJ had the potential to be similar to KD. His back injuries destroyed that.

MPJ was never going to be remotely close to KD.

Well, you don’t know that and that’s not what I said. His back made him immobile and stiff. A MPJ that can create off the dribble and attack the basket is a really good player.

The big thing with Ace is that he's never been a consistently great shooter, which is tough considering the only thing he can create regualrly is hard shots. He's got a sweet-looking jumper and great height and athleticism for a guy with that shot, but guys like MPJ and KD were absolutely dominant scorers and creators when they were his age. (MPJ wasn't the same after his major injuries). It's not to say that Ace can't get there--having his body and pure shot talent gives him that chance--more that he still needs a lot to go right for him to be a good player, let alone a star.

You might be creating a vision of him that's based on highlights--an absolute flamethrower who maybe takes too many constested shots and forces things up but still drills everything. He was a guy who shot 34% from 3 and 69% from the FT line, and scored 17 pts on a team that let him create as much as he could handle. He also had a ton of games where he shot like 3/15, was very inconsistent with his long jumpers.

Even if Bailey is closer to Micheal porter junior that would still be a top 5 pick in most drafts.

Ideally, Ace Bailey would play like Jabari Smith Jr. a high end role player who excels defensively and scores within the flow of the offense. But I don’t see him or his team fully embracing that. To me, he’s more like a Wolves version of Andrew Wiggins.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

I thought that either of those two could be the biggest top-5 bust of this draft prior to the season, but my money was and is still on Bailey.
