I think you see it as people calling these athletes deities because they are called "king James" or "his airness".
Where as others (probably the ones calling them that) see these names as nicknames that are based on the fact that they are great at basketball.
They are marvelous athletes who achieved or met the pinnacle of their profession but at the end of the day they are athletes making millions and millions of dollars. Jordan and James are both worth a billions dollars. They dont need glazing from us lol.
I don't think you should just compliment people because you think they need it. I think you compliment people because they achieve something you value.
I also think saying people are "glazing" is pretty juvenile and anti-social. The idea that positively lifting up others is a negative. It reminds me of tall poppy syndrome, the idea that lifting those that achieve is bad, rather we should all chop people down or not appreciate the pinnacle of any discipline.
