I like ATL if that's viable. Principals being KP, Kennard, and 3 FRPs. KP is $30m expiring. Kennard is a dead eye shooter.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap and the 1st page
ESPN just posted an article. NBA execs believe Mavs should move on from AD as soon as possible because 2026 draft is loaded and that's the only draft pick Mavs can control in the next 5-6 years. It's what we've all been saying basically. Reset the team, give the keys to Coop and go from there. Launch the campaign to bring Luka back when he's still in his best years and try to contend with fresh talent like OKC did. That would probably be best possible outcome. And you'll still have guys like Lively, Christie, BWill, even PJ, etc...

Goal is to find a spot where he wants to go to let him walk on good circumstances. Don't forget Dallas has to build a reputation again. If they chase Luka and AD from the yard no other superstar will join in free agency anymore

Precisely!!! I'm not saying send him only where he wants to go, but good business practices say you keep him informed throughout the process and let him have a voice. I don't think **** franchises will want him any way.
Possible landing spots ranked from an AD perspective...
1. CHI - his hometown
2. LAL/LAC - he has a mansion in Bel Aire
3. GSW/SAC - ~30min flight on a Gulfstream from LA
4. ATL - Big city, great young nucleus + Trey
5. MIA - Competes with LA as "the" landing spot for athletes
6. NYK - Big city, JB and KAT are a perfect match
7. DET - Big city, great young nucleus

I'm fine with accommodating AD to some extent.
I'd think he'd want out of here asap because he'll always be unfairly scrutinized for being the main piece in the Luka trade.
I dont think he'll be too picky.

I don't want to accommodate AD at all. There are finally inside info's coming out on him and why he was traded. Dude is a straight up lazy bum and was basically everything Nico tried to convince us about Luka. And this idiot still traded for him.
“There were moments in the preseason where we wondered if he had even worked out at all in the summer,” one team source who was granted anonymity to speak freely said of Davis entering the 2024-25 season. “He would come back, go through warmups, and then either sit out to be with the training staff or basically half-ass what the team was doing.
“When he first got here (LAL), that wasn't the case. He was always wanting to go above and beyond, and he was one of the first in the gym, last out of it. Over the years, that changed, and he almost became content in a way. It was clear he was out of shape and didn't seem to care what the higher-ups were telling him. Something definitely changed.”
Even before the Davis-Doncic trade became a thought, there was ongoing tension building between Davis' team and members of the Lakers' front office, multiple sources said. This rising tension was not only from his injury struggles and conditioning levels not being up to the standard the team wanted, but there were also genuine concerns about how he took care of his body, which directly resulted in some of his injuries.

I look at it like road rage. It's best to diffuse it than aggravate it. You're losing nothing by just keeping him in the communication loop and let him him be heard. Does that mean if CLT offers you 5 FRPs picks, you don't take it? Of course not.

I understand your point but "to some extent" means to our advantage. If he wants to go to a team they might be willing to give up more.

My preference is to keep AD until the tank is complete. AD will be out more games so it organically helps the tank. Getting someone new might result in more wins. Mavs fans of all people know that every loss counts. Just one more win last season would result in another team drafting Cooper Flagg. The more losses this year, the better.

My concern is that he'll get healthy when Kyrie returns and then we'll go on a run.
I hope they move him before the end of the calendar year.

AD should be traded as soon as possible, but I think Kyrie's return is going to be few months later than Nico wanted. There's 0 reasons to force anything. And he will need another few months to look like himself after his return. Kyrie is not going to win many games for Mavs this year.

Right after the trade happened, they started circulating his upcoming extension, I think he wants to get paid, and will go where someone promises him an extension.
Reinsdorf is stingy and was already burnt by Lavine max extension, I think they'll ask him to earn it next year, my personal guess is that Dumont won't promise it either, if he OKed the Luka trade because Nico convinced him it's a bad investment, there is no one that can fool him into thinking AD extension is a smart one.
Only one I see desperate enough to promise him an extension are the Clippers, that's where I'd bet he ends up, and it'll be soon, on December 15th, I also expect Dumont to try to cut payroll in this trade.

Besides Brooklyn, there's no team with significant cap space. The Mavs would have to gamble for questionable young talents like LaMelo, Zion, Trae. If it's for expiring, Lebron is your best chance. AD and Klay for LBJ still makes tons of sense for both teams. But if LA asks for a pick, I will explore other options first.

Among those three, I think Ja Morant is gettable as a negative assets. With LaMelo, then it may take at least pick considerations for the Mavs or third teams. Or else, Lively is almost part of the trade. Unless we give in on DLive potential to deal with Wemby and Chet, I don't want to part with Lively at all. At this pace, DLive's next contract could be lower than Gafford. It's going to be a big bargain.

There's absolutely no chance of Lakers getting AD back. That would mean they got Luka for free and with lower contract. Impossible for Mavs doing trade like that. They would have been crucified.

I suspect DLive getting paid more than Grimes if the production, injury history and lack of versatility continues.

It's difficult to find a Wemby in draft. DLive is still valuable piece with questionable availability.

Well AD is currently under contract for 3 years (including this season) so he definitely won’t be getting a new contract from whatever team trades for him. They will have him for at least 2 more seasons.

From what I read (I’m no cap expert so if I’m wrong feel free to correct me) the Mavs are over the 1st apron but under the 2nd apron so any trade cannot have the Mavs taking back more money than they send out. I think any trade for AD will have to include a 3rd team. That’s where Brooklyn can come in. They clearly do not want AD but they could end up with a draft pick or young player by helping to facilitate the trade.
