The mess in NOLA obviously starts at the top. The ownership is making bad decisions. Firing Green is just a distraction from their latest mistake in hiring that clown Dumars.

I echo everyone's sentiments in that they should have done a Denver and pulled the double GM/coach trigger
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

Re: Pelicans fire head coach: Willie Green
They gave him **** of a roster and fired him after 2 seasons where he couldnt realisticly do anything.
He should have been fired in the season before, where everyone was healthy-ish and they lost like 20 clutch games in a row.
At the start of the year, Pelicans should have fired GM, coach and hired someone smart. They sadly hired dumbest GM in history of the world and added worst assistant GM possible. Instead of trading skinny Zion and pushing for top 3 pick next year, that dumbass traded one of the most valuable picks in the NBA to move up 8 spots in mid draft...
Now you are forced to suck for 82 games and not even having a hope for top prospect next year. Luckly Fears and Queen looked good, but they are not the players that can carry a franchise, they are both players that i can imagine having good stats on bad team(they will have oppportunity).
Pelicans should at least trade Herb while he has some value, that value is dropping fast.
Hey at least we, fans of Pelicans who dont live in New Orleans have something to hope for. Las Vegas/Seattle, here we come. Im just sad for those poor fans who actualy live in New Orleans.

Revolving door franchise with a flawed roster.
Willie Green won't have a difficult time finding another assistant job and eventually he should receive another head coaching job in the future.

It was rhe right call by the Pels, but by the same token, I feel desperately sorry for Willie at the same time, so many things (esp injuries) conspired against him to have a successful go of it at The Pels

Aight man, I'm slowly coming around to believing that Centel really is a Woj burner.

Willie was awful, awful. Way too late for this move, but at least it's here. I'm for blowing up the roster and building around Queen/Fears who both have looked better than expected.

What hasn't Joe Dumars done to sink a franchise?

I don’t want to be mean, because it’s unfair to NOLA fans… This is what you deserve when you hire Dumars. Like how?
Water makes you weak.

Two things are true here. Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver shouldn’t be running this franchise, and Willie Green is a terrible basketball coach. Green should have been fired long before they took over last summer.

I’d keep Murphy and Jones unless I got an offer I couldn’t refuse and trade Zion for whatever I could get. Move Poole just to get him away from your young guys, even if it means taking on another bad contract. Let Murray try to rehab his value midseason, then trade him, if possible.
Also, play Queen and Missi together to see if it can be a Karl-Anthony Towns/Mitchell Robinson type pairing, with Queen playing the Towns role and Missi playing the Robinson role.

Yup, I agree with all this. Build around Murphy, Queen, Herb, Missi, and Fears.davidv2001 wrote:donato wrote:Willie was awful, awful. Way too late for this move, but at least it's here. I'm for blowing up the roster and building around Queen/Fears who both have looked better than expected.

All the big contract guys need to hit the road, even if the returns turn out to not be great.

They should call Mike Malone, but if I was him I wouldnt want the job as long as Dumars is there

Re: Pelicans fire head coach: Willie Green
Green is one of those coaches that has like a 2-3 year window on a young team.
With a young team early on, he’s pretty good to get them to play hard night in and night out. But the issue is, there is a very short ceiling with that. And you need to be able to actually coach some to take the next step.
He’s never really showed much more than just being a good motivator. And now the young team isn’t that young anymore and they’ve tuned him out.
Don’t get me wrong, the Pels front office did him no favors. But he’s also just not a coach with a high ceiling.

Pelicans went from a stacked young roster looking like one of the next contending teams in the nba to being a joke within a few years.
Its crazy how fast things can switch up when you rely on an unserious franchise player and make some bad moves.

Pelicans have talent but need a full on rebuild and should trade Zion & Poole for whatever you can get and fire Dumars as well.I like the other pieces on the roster in Fears,Queen,Jones,Murphy,Bey,Missi and Looney.
But plan should be keep Fears/Queen and everyone else is on the trade table(again like to keep a vet like Looney who doesn't cost much and a proven role player) and bring in a legit headcoach and GM.A guy like Malone,Jenkins,Thibs a guy with a proven track record that can turn them back into a playoff team sooner then later.

So they fire green for the 2-10 start then promote borrego( I get some one has to take over) and then borrego most likely continues to lose games just like green so in the end what was the point of firing green in the first place? Do they expect borrego(who was already on the staff with the 2-10 start) to turn it around? Lol I get how it all works, but it's just kinda ridiculous.
This is just Dumars trying to shift blame from himself. We all knew this roster was not competing in the west.
