He is not scoring, he is not getting assists in the halfcourt, he is not defending, we get crushed in his minutes in most games... But he is a vet so he gets minutes. Reputation minutes over actually producing.... Defending is what kept Jett off the court last season but I guess if you're a vet you get an exceptionBergmaniac wrote:He is not scoring, he is not getting assists in the halfcourt, he is not defending, we get crushed in his minutes in most games... He is seriously terrible. We play 4 on 5 on offense and defense when he is on the court. You can't be an absolute zero chance to score in the Nba.

Career 37.5% 3pt shooter is now at 10.5% here.
Bane is a career 40.7% 3pt shooter and is now at 31.3% here.
Maybe our system is part of the problem?
That said, I won't excuse away all of the open bricks. He's either cooked or just doesn't fit with this roster.

Re: Tyus Jones: The newest elephant
7 straight games with zero points.
9 of 14 games with zero points.
Defense doesn't even need to be mentioned.
Like I don't even think there is a point of discussing what he used to be, there is a chance he is just cooked. He is 6 foot flat, once you lose a step at that height it is going to be hard to create anything, he really could just be cooked. And the off chance he isn't, maybe he is somehow having the worst luck ever and will get it together, sit him for a bit and let him try again if we get an injury or something or if Jase fails in his audition. This is getting ridiculous. Even if he gets back to his peak his defense barely makes him worth it, why are we sitting through this?

Re: Tyus Jones: The newest elephant
It is the problem, our lack of a system just doesn't match well with his skill set.....it would help if he was athletic or a defender.... If he could create on his own but he's the type of player where He's the one setting the table and helping to create for others but in an environment where a lot of that is ran off guard? Where does he fit in? He should be able to do so by hitting some spray outs, but he's not hitting any shots either.....currently at this moment he's kind of unplayablethelead wrote:KillMonger wrote:System playerJ-Mezzy wrote:Dude was good in a winning way with the grizzlies and stats wise with the wizards

Mac McClung > Tyus Jones
And Mosley wouldn't even give McClung a look. And I guarantee you those breakaway fastbreaks opportunities would have been dunks for McClung.

McClung sucks and couldn't even stick around with a 1-12 Pacers team. No coach is going to play Mac with Cole in a backcourt.

Bane has already pretty much came out and said it. Our offense is very basic, and Tyus is a system player. But when your system isn't pointguard dependent, and produces a bottom 10 offense year after year, I am not sure who you can stick in there anymore. Tyus didn't forget how to play, he has just had his strengths removed from him because of our coaching staff.

Re: Tyus Jones: The newest elephant
I do not think Tyus is solely to blame for these losses or the biggest problem or anything. But I think he definitely has been a very big problem and one that is maybe fixable or can be slightly improved on. Today obviously we lost in large part because we missed easy shots and free throws, but I don't think there is a way you can really fix that instantly, it just sort of happened. At least with Tyus you can try something else. If he makes one shot out of his 4 we win.
There's Jase and probably guys in the G League that can do better in the short term. I don't blame them for sticking with the vet, giving him a chance, but it's getting to that point where he has to turn it around fast before I try anything else for any slight improvement. Game of very small margins, a consistent massive negative even in his short stints can cost you several games-- it already has.
Maybe he will still turn it around, IDK. I really hope he does.

Mac McClung
IND-2025-26 season
6.3pts 1.3reb 0.3ast FG%
Tyus Jones
ORL-2025-26 season
1.5pts 0.8reb 1.4ast
Atrocious. Three game sample for Mac, but way better than Tyus. There's absolutely no reason for how bad he's been and you cannot defend the way he's been playing.

I have the feeling when Prunty took the offensive coordinator position that he hand-picked Tyus as an FA he wanted.

Well that would be weird, because he hasn't been used once the way he had in other offenses. His game heavily relies on pick and rolls, and he lives off that little mid range floater. He has taken like 2-3 all year, so not sure why you would covet someone, then completely change what he excels at and has made a living doing.

Re: Tyus Jones: The newest elephant
It's not like Tyus's role is going to expand any further than what it is now. If he's this limited of a player and can't shoot, sit him and give him a look later if that chance comes for him. He's not worth trying to let him figure it out. He's on a one year contract, and we got Jase who's clearly more talented.

What do you expect from adding 6'0 PG on a roster, than taking ball away from him?
