Ultimately we have no control as fans. I would have been onboard to a legitimate effort to trade assets early and rebuild that way. It never happened. Nonetheless, they did retool and get younger at least. CMB, and Shead look like winning pieces. I still have hope in Gradey and JKW to become bench pieces or perhaps more valuable trade assets eventually. Battle was a nice pick up. So was Mamu. RJ has been better than many feared. IQ seems to be turning it around. We just need BI and Jakob to stay healthy and they could be a fun playoff team.

For the team to tank moving forward I believe it would take a colossal implosion starting with removing all the FO. And it would be a **** show. Not happening anytime soon most likely.

That said, it's a pretty fun team now. I'd be happy with a competitive second round match. I'm a Canucks fan. There's more to life than championships. Sometimes being a good competitive team with a chance to upgrade to the next level is fun. And it looks like that's where we are at.

Enjoy the ride I say.

100%. Unless it's for a SUBSTANTIAL upgrade, please don't trade our 2026 1st.

They should trade it for Kyle Anderson, similar player to Thad Young! for that final push!

Tank early? Spurs got wemby from the 10th spot, we were 9th, actually we should've won more games if we wanted wemby

I mean perspectives definitely comes into play here

"Spurs got wemby from the 10th spot, we were 9th"

Fact check:

https://www.olympics.com/en/news/2023-nba-draft-lottery-date-time-order-odds

What are the team odds for the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery?
1. Detroit Pistons. 17-65. 14.00%
2. Houston Rockets. 22-60. 14.00%
3. San Antonio Spurs. 27-55. 14.00%
4. Charlotte Hornets. 27-55. 12.50%
5. Portland Trailblazers. 33-49. 10.50%
...
13. Toronto Raptors 41-41. 1%

and we TWO get called out for making up facts! SMH

My guess is he was thinking Harper.

- Thad trade costing us either Nembbard from Pacers, or Kessler from Utah
- the Jakob trade costing us draft position in 2023 draft, missing out on Cason Wallace, Lively, one of Thompson brothers, or Bilal
- passing on Bucks offer for FVV, costing us a FRP and Grayson

but again, there were moves in hindsight, that FO made mistakes on
- Norm trade , one that made sense at the time but didn't work out
- signing Porter over Malik Monk (we needed any capable backup guard)

Since 2021, we have zigged when we should have zagged. After Scottie Barnes, we missed top picks in strong drafts due to "competing" and got forced to tank in weak drafts. A series of mistakes that has limited this team's ceiling. We have a 500 team right now and on track of building through hitting on low end picks (like OG, and Siakam) to really have a chance at contender for deep playoffs.

yup, for sure, we competitive, but team ceiling is much lower

Yeah and style-wise this is a fun team. Too much of our floor is tied to Poeltl's health however.

I will say, regarding Thad, is that for such a "respected veteran", it's telling that nobody has scooped him up in a Temple-like role, or brought him onto their coaching staff. IIRC, he hasn't officially retired.

Blasting Toronto also made me see him in a different light. Stark contrast to how Temple talks about every city he's played in. There is no way in hell he truly enjoyed each one, but you say that you did, offer up a platitude or two, and change the subject.

Honestly, why not? What is the "worst" NBA city?

Like even OKC is still a 700,000 person city, comparable to the size of ottawa or edmonton that are 1M people. In the end, still a large enough city to have pretty much anything you wanna do.

Coming from Regina which is a fraction of the size, and growing up in a small town of literally only 2 thousand, it isn't like it is a horrible way to live. There is definite upsides the big city folk simply don't get to experience.

Is it better/worse or is it just different? I'd argue for every pro of Toronto, or New York, or LA, there is a con.

I just meant humans being what they are, I highly doubt Temple enjoyed every single city he played in. There has to be at least one he didn't like, for whatever reason, Anyway, my larger point is that Thad just have just paid his respects to Toronto because those are the white lies (In my opinion) that you just say.

Not sure what your last part was on about, I personally would love to live in a city of 2k people. Sounds like paradise to me. Seriously, that is not a joke.

I'm in favour of trading our 27 draft pick + 26 to move up like the Pels did.

The Thad Young situation was really weird all around. Maybe he just didn't like the way his career ended as someone who didn't play much but we paid him way more than he was worth so there should have at least been some gratitude there.

As i've gotten older i started appreciating rural lifestyles. But the big thing for me is winter. Rural winters are so boring if you hate the cold (which i do). Nothing to do. In the city it's the best time for restos and concerts and sports.

Ideally....i'd love to spend winters in the city and summers in a rural area.

You have been calling for trading away FRP since Tampa. Yes even during Tampa covid season you called for trading FRP.

No GM should follow this incredibly poor advice.
Developing every pick each year- but especially now as a .600 team - is equally foolish no?

There's no question he was a respected veteran. There are only a small handful of these babysitter vets in the league. Temple, DeAndre Jordan, Jeff Green, Kyle Lowry. I don't think it's a statement on how Thad is viewed, but rather how teams choose to fill out their rosters these days. Honestly Jeff Green might only be in the league still because he's KD's friend.

It's really sad to see NBA rosters filled out with Gleaguers over vets that can hold a locker room together, but I suspect it's the quant takeover of NBA FOs that view one Gleaguer blowing up into a rotation player as a more likely reward.
