Simply put, hes playing the game the right way. Having RJ, BI, IQ who can take the scoring burden off him is doing wonders for his game... he's playing like Scottie Barnes, and he's thriving. PER36 hes averaging 22/8/6/1.5/2... I'm loving his approach, and his defense has been fantastic.

People need to realize Scottie is naturally passive and a pass first player, which is why this pairing with BI, IQ, and RJ just works. Scottie is molding into an elite #2, who can anchor a defense. He's a complete unicorn this season, and management needs to keep surrounding him with the right pieces.

Hes been playing like an allstar, and if he keeps this up hes making an allstar, making the all defensive team, and depending on the team record he may even be All NBA. His play, demeanor, and attitude has been night and day compared to last year.

fwiw, I think this is starting to normalize with him. It was a lot worse. There's no way Scottie is among the worst paint presence in the league. It probably had to do with Jak being out and Scottie trying to make more plays while saving fouls.

Basketball reference gives him 2.4DBMP. If that rim defence number is correct. SB must be on elite level outside the restricted area.

He wasn’t doing well against Embiid, while starting center. And it is not a coincidence our points allowed are much better with a healthy Peoltl this year.

My theory is SB is an elite defender while being switch, weak side or help defender. And we should let him having that role. A rim protector like Yak is a must if we are building with SB. So we can play SB to his strengths and not his weaknesses.

Maybe this is a hot take, maybe not

If the Raptors make the playoffs this year, and Scottie keeps doing his thing, he will probably cement himself as a Top 10 Raptor all-time by season's end (if he's not already there).

Lowry, VC, Kawhi, Derozan, Bosh, FVV, Pascal, Scottie is already. I'd put ahead of OG, JV, Stoudamire and Calderon.

I would throw multiple picks at getting Okongwu. A stretch defensive big would compliment Barnes game insanely well. He'd have a near Tatum like scoring season.

When Scottie realizes he's the bully and the players guarding him on the ones getting bullied he'll be able to lead this team to great places. He just has too many plays were you see him absolutely bodying these guys in the paint and then he misses at the end of the play and before the ball even comes of the rim hes complaining for the foul. Refs wont give young players calls that its just bad body language.

Obviously incredibly SSS but Jak + Scottie has been a disaster pairing so far at 122 DRTG over 177 mins while Mamu + Scottie has been an elite 94.9 DRTG over 115 mins. Jak is obviously very important to this team but we have actually been significantly better so far defensively with Mamu out there instead which allows us to do a lot more switching. Will need some more data for things to normalize to see where the numbers actually end up but it's probably not what anyone expected seeing Mamu be this effective on D so far.
