Curry vs Wemby is sports nirvana
I haven't seen many things more interesting than Curry shooting over Wemby who is doing his level best to block 3 pointers. Honestly put these battles in the Louvre - the Olympics, NBA preseason and regular season has been an incredible matchup.
I really want the Spurs and Warriors to meet in the playoffs. It would be incredible.
Edit - just want to add, it's almost cartoonish to have it be a rivalry. Most times a dominant big stays inside so like a Kobe vs Orlando Dwight battle didn't as mean much because they didn't actually guard each other. But Wemby is like a 7-5 Kirilenko out there trying to compete in every play and he can. It's crazy Wemby's impact and then to have still the most freakish shooter ever, Curry going at him, is bananas!
The greatest little man vs a contender for greatest big man.

Re: Curry vs Wemby is sports nirvana
Curry is easily the most exciting player I've watched since Jordan, and it's not even close. The skill level, the bravado, the aura, the cockiness, the taunting, the joy he plays with, how he uses the crowd for fuel, and his ability to just take over a games suddenly with a barrage of the most difficult shots you've ever seen, just wild. He's the perfect blend of being quiet and humble off the court while simultaneously being a cocky assassin on the court. The dude just knows how to feel the big moment.
When the Raptors aren't playing and I see the Warriors are on, that's the team I go to because I just want to see if Curry will perform his magic.
I don't know how many years he has left, whether it's 2 years or 5 years, but I have to appreciate what this guy has done and continues to do.

Curry release is so quick, nothing Wemby can do.

I'd be interested to see the Spurs add a rim protector to the roster that can shoot well enough to stay on the floor and let Wemby just be some sort of insane perimeter defensive menace as he likes via a zone. Wemby could just help on any perimeter scorer, imagine he's roaming against Luka and doesn't have to worry about rim protection, then he can use his length and athleticism to make it way harder to put up 3s. yes he'd block some, are you kidding me?

He certainly has a shot. It's really early to be trying to say he's there, of course, but with his unique tools, he certainly has a chance.

Re: Curry vs Wemby is sports nirvana
But Wembanyama does the same thing Embiid does, he falls over to protect his body. I don't see that working if he had to defend a Patrick Ewing or Hakeem Olajuwon or even the slightly lighter guys like David Robinson.
They'd use their weight to seal him and he'd either have to fall or risk injury.
And God help him vs. Shaq, not that anyone stops Shaq, but it would be a real health hazard for Wembanyama to feel all that weight banging into his ribs.
So while Wembanyama is quick for his size, and he can use that (though the quickness advantage is not much vs. Olajuwon and Robinson, plus even Orlando Shaq was very quick in short bursts), I don't see how its physically possible for Wembanyama to rank as high as the all-time great centers when his body is not built for those match-ups.

Because that's not really how that is measured. It's more about what he achieves than how he'd match up with guys who retired a decade before he was drafted (or more).

Re: Curry vs Wemby is sports nirvana
I don't think it is a solid David vs. Goliath rivalry as the thread is making it out to be. Curry is old and Wembanyama is young. Just because Wembanyama has a more perimeter game doesn't mean it is a legit rivalry. People only farm the few photos when Curry gets the better of Wembanyama due to his lack of experience.
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

Enjoyed the hell out of that game.
Because its a passing of the torch moment. Curry has been the biggest icon next to Bron of this last generation and Wemby is the next. Watching these two as they transition play together will be iconic come 10 years from now when Curry is long gone and Wemby is dominating.

Possibly true
My new theory of wemby is he needs a big man next to him and should just roam around. He's a 7-5 Durant.

Re: Curry vs Wemby is sports nirvana
Wemby does NOT have worry about matching up with long-retired centers from the 90s.
Who cares if Shaq this, and Olajuwon that, and Ewing the other. Irrelevant.
Those guys could not guard out to the 3-point line, they could not hit 3-pointers to spread the floor, could not switch well on defense, were ball-stoppers like most big men of their day, and on and on we could go... It's almost like their games and bodies were suited for their era.
Kinda like Wemby's is.
So, anyway, all that to say that if you want to dismiss Wemby as a legit potential candidate for GOAT big man, bringing up guys from another era isn't going to do it.

If the 90s center were guarding Wemby, they'd dare him to shoot the 3s, because he's only a 35% 3-point-shooter (and that is just below the league average).
Make Wemby settle for 3s, and you (as in the 90s center) win.
If Wemby is muscled out of the paint, he loses his height advantage as he becomes just another 3-point shooter, and not a good one.
This is especially true in the 4th quarter of playoff games, where teams often go cold under pressure, so if you can force Wemby to attempt 3s in the 4th quarter of big games... that's a terrible outcome for Wemby.
And it would happen in EVERY era whether he's being guarded by Russell or Wilt or Kareem or Gilmore or Eaton or Olajuwon or Ewing or Robinson or Duncan or Shaq or Dwight, they're all stronger than him and they will close down the paint (plus most of them are very good at guarding the mid-range too).
