Crazy game for AJ. Horrible start but huge 2nd half. Great comeback even though it came up short.

His feel for the game is advanced for his age but for the NBA, its average at best.

He dribbles with a wide base like Dominique Wilkins. Both cover a lot of ground with their handles.
He's a lot like SGA around the paint. He needs to work on his balance like SGA did as a prospect.
His in the box handles and triple threat are T-Macish.
The elevation he gets on his jumper is Nique and McGrady like.
His explosiveness is more SGA than Nique or McGrady. He and Nique are two foot jumpers.
Defensively, he's more advanced than Tracy or Nique. He gives you young KG vibes but mentally, he has a lot of work to do as KG did early on.
He's a rough defender for now but he could be elite in time.

I like him more as a prospect than I did with Durant but I didn't realize Durant would become as good as he became. He got so much stronger in the NBA than in college. Durant struggled finishing in the paint and really struggled at it in the NBA early on.

2nd best SF I've evaluated. LeBron is the best by a mile even as a HS Sr.

Off ball movement on offense is a WIP. He doesn't just stand around but he doesn't fully understand how to move off the ball yet which is normal for his age and position.

Personality is great
Leadership is good and elite for his age
For me, he has the highest ceiling and while I am not expecting him to hit the point Durant became, it wouldn't shock me if he did and got further. The great ones unlock levels unexpected.

I had RJ Barrett vibes in the summer when I watched him in the U19 WC. Then when I saw him live in the beginning of the season I was super impressed. But in the game against UConn I again got massive Barrett vibes. IN the sense of a guy struggling to get past his defender, trying to bully his way through, settling for spin moves or tough fadeaways etc.

Yawn you people don’t know what you want. When he was getting to the paint at will, the narrative was “oh he can’t shoot”. Now this game where he shows tough jumpers, post game and advanced footwork, somehow it’s “he can’t get past his defender”. RJ Barrett and Dybantsa play nothing alike at all. Barrett is a north and south player, who plays in a straight line. Dybantsa is an east and west player that uses a lot of lateral movement. Barrett never had a post game nor turnaround jumper, Barrett was 3 pt or layup player. Not much in between

Gotta give some props to the Ucon defense. The guy guarding him was a really good defender and their help defense was on point. They were clearly in his head in the first half.

AJ had to completely change his approach in the second half to lead that comeback.

Tbh, I see alot of Ace Bailey. AJ is probably a little better at getting to his shots but still has some handle limitations which impact his decision making. He does take unusually long strides which is good for getting around people and opening up windows to pass/shoot but that elongated stride seems to limit his drives all the way to the rim. His handle will need to get tighter to unlock superstar upside. Someone mentioned a bigger R.J. Barrett. AJ is not as clunky but I get it.

I have Peterson firmly ahead just based on everything I've seen so far. Boozer & AJ will be a debate for the ages however.

I don't think Ace and AJ are similar. AJ shoots 6 freethrows a game and handles the ball quite a bit (also gets some assists, 2 per game). Ace shot half as many freethrows, got no assists, and is much less physical strength-based in how he generates points. Ace projects to do a lot of damage off-ball, while AJ will do more on-ball.

Yeah, I don't see the similarities at all. They play very differently and have very different strengths and weaknesses.

Other than the obvious difference like height on jumper, in the box ball handling skills, and obviously a world class first step compared to a good first step for a 4, yeah, i can see that. As you said, a Siakam/T-Mac shades mix.

Before I said shades of SGA, Tmac, Nique, and KG but in reality it's Siakam, not KG that has more in common even if its just shades. SGA and Nique still have strong shades as well.

I don't think anyone looks like AJ truly and he doesn't really fit into any prototype that I've seen before.

Like LeBron, he has his own prototype. He's a primary scoring wing who can play off the ball decently as well as create for others decently. On defense, he's a better defender for this stage than his comrades but he's still not good on defense whereas Boozer and Peterson are NBA good right now on defense.

His body frame is most unique. I can see him getting to 225 to 235 and really being impossible to deal with.
