What’s up with all the drama about our own players, dudes? C’mon. I even get mad at my favorite players in the heat of the moment too, but we’re overly successful at this point compared to predictions. Let’s enjoy the fact that we have a really fun team and look forward to the next game, fellas!

Anyway, it’s crazy that this Suns team is second in steals, only behind the Thunder — which might historically be one of the best teams ever at forcing turnovers and generating steals. The last two years we had zero identity. Did we want to run? Shoot a lot of threes? Let KD & Book score from midrange? Crash the offensive glass or focus on getting back? It was just a bunch of “Yeah guys, go out there and play hard!”

I remember some games where the team looked like a CPU-controlled squad in 2K on rookie/pro difficulty. I actually checked my posts from that time, and this really summed up the way we played:

It’s unbelievable how boring the offense is. The Blazers are out there running a G-League-caliber lineup, but they move the ball better and faster than the Suns.

Ball handler brings the ball up, gets a pick from a big, shoots.
Ball handler brings the ball up, they double him, lazy pass to the next man, he drives and tries to get a foul whistle.

Bleh.

This season, the whole energy and the way we play is completely different. Ott is definitely the biggest addition to this team. One thing that surprised me, though, was the pace of this year’s squad. I thought we were pushing the pace a lot and playing fast, but compared to the rest of the league, the Suns are actually 21st. It really shows how crazy the league has gotten with how fast teams run now.

But this brings me back to the first thing I said: identity. We have it again. The Suns force teams to play slower than they want. If they want to run — good luck. The whole team is super active on defense: Dunn, Brooks, Book, Gillespie (my GOAT), Goodwin, Oso, and most of the roster. They’re dawgs and great at getting deflections (Suns are 5th in the league in deflections this year, btw).

On offense, the game plan is simple: put Book in the first action, the defense reacts, find the open man, and share the ball. I never loved the idea of PG Book, but you’ve gotta admit basketball has evolved into a sport where the role of a point guard isn’t what it used to be. Point guards aren’t just ball handlers who bring the ball up, run the play, and decide who shoots. Now, whoever is your best on-ball threat is your point guard. We saw it with Tyus last year. It’s useless to have a traditional point guard who isn’t a threat themselves — defenses just ignore them.

We should really appreciate Book, though. He’s a very underrated basketball player, and it’s sad to see all the hate he gets. Not many All-Stars or elite scorers would be okay with his role. Whatever the team asks from him, the dude delivers. Sure, he has his brain-freeze moments as a point guard, but over the years he’s improved so much as a playmaker, and we shouldn’t take him for granted.

One last thing: when I was watching the Hawks game, I realized how different our third quarters are compared to past years. That used to be one of our biggest issues. The team blew so many leads and came out of halftime with zero energy. Now it feels like opponents run into a wall in the third. I checked some third-quarter stats and I was right! The Suns have the 4th-best net rating in the third quarter this year, and over the last 10 games they’re the second-best (only behind the Thunder again).

This is really good stuff, guys. Teams will adjust to us, and there will be stretches where our shooting cools off or opponents shoot better. But it’s so fun to see that we have an identity again. I’m just hoping for a healthy season, and if Jalen comes back and blends in the way he showed in his first game, the Suns will be a really annoying team to play against…

It's like team play, sharing the ball, putting effort on defense >>>>> ISO offense and no defense. Who would have known? But somehow people still fall for these fake ass super team BS. "BUT IT'S KEVIN DURANTTT!!!" :noway:

If you have a problem with somebody saying anything graphic, then you have a problem with Dillon. There's a reason he gets techs in games he isn't even suited up for.

Also I am Dillon Brooks.

I like Dillon. This team has been softer than Charmin, and no leadership. Dillon brings locker room, leadership, grit, and hustle. I would take Dillon Brooks for my team all day. But when you try to talk about homosexual stuff, and trying to be a tough guy, thats when the line is drawn.

We know you hate Dillon, not sure what he did to you, so just make a post about how much you hate him, and bash him in there.

I am Dillon. And I hate myself for it. I suck. I cannot hit a 3 to save my life and my go to move -- the forarm shove into an awkward fadeaway 2 while screaming and 1 and then running down the court cussing at the refs, fans, and kicking my head back aggressively until somebody hits me so I can flop, is taxing on my mental health.

Dillon Brooks is a 35% career 3 pt shooter
Dan Majerle is a 35% career 3 pt shooter
Devin Booker is a 35% career 3 pt shooter
Luka Doncic is a 34% career 3 pt shooter
Ja Morant is a 31% career 3 pt shooter
Penny Hardaway is a 31% career 3 pt shooter

I rest my case. Research before you spew out nonsense

Sabrestar already shared this in the Brea thread, but it's a perfect example of why it's important for newly drafted young rookies to get playing time! Especially shooters, because for them, confidence is paramount to their getting into offensive rythm.

This even applies to veteran and the most notable shooters at times too. Otherwise they can get in a shooting slump. But Brea was drafted for his shooting, and he's shown his abilities to do so repeatedly.

He really just needs more opportunities fo play (in blowouts) getting actual NBA floor time to adjust to the speed and nuance of the game! Then his confidence will build as he adapts.

We changed because we have 4 Cs on the roster ( Oso can play some PF, but he mostly is a C) and we are having injuries in the backcourt.

Jalen Green out for a month.
Grayson Allen day-to-day.
Collin Gillespie had cramps in the last game and has been dealing with some minor issues in the last week.

With how much time he gets, I could see Livers 2 way getting switched to the 15th roster spot.

He's better than Hayes-Davis

Very true! I have to say that I'm quite disappointed with Hayes Davis' lack of production/ impact so far. I thought he'd at least be servicabl out there due to his experience.

But it appears he might just not even be an NBA player after all. How sad of an outcome for him. The best opportunity he has left to save his potential NBA career, would be to focus on becoming a lockdown defensive player at his position offering utility defensive playmaking.

I think the Lakers really need a C like Nick who can be either a backup or 3rd string center because Hayes is just not a very good player but sadly the Lakers only have a single 2nd round pick left and that is way off in the future like in 2032 so it wouldn't be of much help to us.

I also don't know if they would part with a young player like Laravia although he seems to have struggled a bit with his shot this year but shows flashes of talent.

Apparently the Flakers do have their own 26' 1st for this upcoming draft (according to tankathon and Fanspo trade machine) but yes, due to the Stepien rules, they'd have to make the pick for us on draft night and Richards is a 5 million expiring currently.

So we'd need to try and extend him before the draft or do a sign "n" trade? I do really Like LaRavia as a backup for Allen to mentor (at 6'8) he'd have good size on the wing too. Would really prefer a Marcus Smart though.

The other team that I think would be heavily interested in Richards would be the Celtics. And they have their 1st in 26' and a really good trade exchange for us could be Richards to the Celtics for Sam Hauser?? Hauser is making 10 million though,

So maybe if we had foresight and could convince Richards to resign for 10 million? Or possibly send O'neale to some team for a good player swap or a late 1st ( San Antonio or Toronto perhaps)?? But definitely someone with more size and athleticism if possible.

Doesn't really work

You can trade a draft propsect after you take them but assuming they want Richards, they want him now, not in the offseason. Then of course you'd have to work out his contract which is expiring as well. LA can only swap that pick for another 2026 FRP but we don't have one to swap.

Yeah, I meant draft rights mainly after the 30 days or so unless they drafted for us with their pick. But even then, Richards is an expiring contract, so we really couldn't even trade him for at least 6 months ( I believe)? After we extend/ resign him.

Really, like you pointed out, it just doesn't work contractually with the timing. Our main pieces we actually do have for trade are Allen and O'neale. But I'm just hesitant about trading Allen with his current fit and impact.

O'neale has been great. But I could part with him for a late 1st or multiple 2nds and not lose too much sleep really. But even then, there's the whole potential play in situation that I'd want him for possibly.

Tier IV: Strong starts but...

8. Phoenix Suns

7. Milwaukee Bucks

The Suns are 9-6 and hold the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference at the moment. They've found a defense after two years without one, are scoring like crazy when Mark Williams is on the floor, and are getting one of the best regular seasons of Devin Booker's career.

All of this is great in November coming off of two nightmare seasons. The reality of being a play-in team in a conference of superpowers hits much harder in April. With practically no draft control of high-upside youth aside from the injury-prone Williams, the ceiling remains relatively low here.

So the Booker rumors are on hold for the moment, but are by no means off the table entirely. At least Booker signed his extension.

Thoughts on his perspective for the Suns I mean to a degree he's not wrong here right? The situational outlook regarding our future, lack of assets, and so very much hinging upon durability and injury concerns for our frontcourt anchor?

We've been great and exceeded expectations so far. But the reality of facing legitimately better and more talented teams begins soon. What outcome should we honestly expect by the trade deadline??
