Re: Around the NBA 13
Just goes to show if a guy is super productive at a young age (18-19) for a big Euroleague club they are probably going to be very good in the NBA.

Theres an alternate timeline where they get Sengun and Jalen Johnson from that draft class and it makes me sad to think about.

The convo feels like it is going to quickly shift to "Well yeah, Ace is the better prospect but Kon was the right fit". Dude had a really strong debut with 6 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals and a block all while being ultra efficient shooting it from all over the floor.
Kon has done nothing for me to be worried about the selection. they both have looked good at this early stage
Kon averaging 13 ppg, shooting 37.5% from field and 23.5% from three.
Ace averaging 25ppg, shooting 68.8% from field and 40% from three.
Basically, the same thing.
This aged well.
There was a reason I wasn’t worried about Kon

If you watched college basketball last year you could see that Kon was gonna be able to succeed due to being well rounded on and that Ace was more one dimensional. Offensively anyway.
Kon has also been pretty solid on D (and rebounding lol)

Re: Around the NBA 13
We've got two days before our next game so might as well create a controversial topic...lol. [ducks]
Now that everyone has had a chance to see the rookies in summer league and the first month of the season, list the rookies that you would still take over kon. Curious to see how much, if any, people's preferences have changed.
Ill go first. For me, I'm still taking Flagg, harper and probably vj. They are still the only three to me that have an obvious higher ceiling and easier path to Super stardom, while still having a high floor. Only others in consideration would be coward or maybe queen. How much do you believe in cowards ability to expand further on his game? Does he have Kawhi Leonard potential? And how much do you believe in Queens motor, conditioning, defense and consistency?
fears then ace being the last Longshots. I'd probably be out on tre. Love the shooting but he's probably 2-3 years away from getting to the all around level kon is playing at now. I'd take the sure bet in kon.
So highest I'm taking kon is 4th, absolute lowest would be 6th.
Gun to head:
Flagg
Harper
Vj
Kon
Coward
Queen
Fears
Ace
Anyone else? It will be interesting to see who outside of this group that's not getting a lot of playing time right now moves into this conversation later in the year.

And the Hornets were absolutely right to take Kon at 4.

mostly unserious conspiracy thought: The league told Nico to trade Luka to the Lakers so the upcoming sale would set the highest possible bar for team valuations.

I'm geniunely struggling to pick VJ over Kon at the moment. That's how much he has impressed me.
Flagg, Harper then Kon/VJ for me

Good for Atlanta.
They took a chance in Dejounte Trade. It failed, but they didn't give up.
They traded him away for Dyson and picks.
Then they took another chance trading Porzingis.
Took another chance signing NAW to a bigger deal in FA.
Traded back in the draft instead of getting married to "their guy"
Hornets would be too patient to try any of this.
Not sure if serious. Half those moves were made by a GM that subsequently got fired, and one of them involved trading for an oft injured player who then got injured. That leaves signing NAW to basically the MLE (not exactly a crazy risk or an aggressive move) and then being willing to take an unrestricted 1st from a rudderless franchise to move 10 spots from their late lotto position.
And as you're aware, ATL was in a completely different position as a franchise than we were when our new group stepped in, so it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison.
Feels like a disingenuous argument just to take a shot rather than a nuanced and thoughtful consideration of the circumstances.
Huh? Yeah 4 out of 5 of these moves look really smart right now. Porzingis has played in 9 games and is day to day. You make it sound like dude is out for the year. NAW was one of the most sought after FA last year, so yeah more than just some random MLE signing.
Hawks Front Office has been more aggressive and more successful than Hornets. So if you don't want to give them any credit then what is that saying about Charlotte?
The front office you're pumping up for half those moves got fired. What bizarro world are we in where they get props for being aggressive since making the ECF in 2021, and for that aggressiveness they tallied 3 playoff game wins in the last 4 years, and didn't even make the playoffs the last 2?
If we made it to the ECF and then won 3 total playoff games the next 4 seasons and missed the playoffs twice during that span, would you be on here defending our FO like you are ATL?

Yes, I would still think that front office is better than whatever the Hornets have been doing for the last decade. Are we serious right now? They also have a better coach than us. Idk how you can sit here and defend 90% of what the front office does than try to bash the Hawks FO who at least made a ECF, while we are 23-74 with our current coach and our #6 pick is playing in Gleague. We haven't made the playoffs in 12 years, but hey I would hate to be the Hawks right now lmao.

Well mitch was a terrorist... so by default any other GM on the planet would have been better.
Jpete... jury is still out. But so far, feels like best gm we've had since Bernie.... at very least. Although, not hard to be better than mitch, Cho and Higgins.

Jeff might've cooked with this most recent draft, but so far he's below Cho and above Mitch and Higgins for me. Cho's downfall was that he married himself to Steve Clifford.
investigate Adam Silver

I'm willing to concede Cho for now. Fair enough.HornetJail wrote:fatlever wrote:Well mitch was a terrorist... so by default any other GM on the planet would have been better.

I do appreciate what he was trying to do with his four Cs approach. And I do love the fact that he generally went after Super High character guys. It led to a very likable team and 2 playoff births. He was decent at finding some small mid-season trades that worked out really well. And I'm not sure that it was his fault that he rushed the rebuild by signing jefferson. And really hard to fault him on two of his big draft busts... the holy s*** he just missed on so many lottery picks. And I'm not sure that it was his say so in completely ignoring the second round pics all the years that he did. S******* the bed and that Frank Kaminsky draft by turning down the Boston offer though is pretty inexcusable especially when we saw the rationale behind why they turned it down. It's just really hard to say during that era how much of that was coming from Jordan and his inner circle
