Toumani Camara (NBA All-Defensive 2nd Team last year) - 64 DEF rating
Damian Lillard (notoriously bad defender for 13 seasons straight) - 74 DEF rating
Taylor Hendricks (856 minutes in year 1, 75 minutes in year 2, good but not generational defender) - 112 DEF rating

It is what it is. But is there any way to anticipate this from year to year, or is it just a crapshoot?

And there’s clearly a stat that some people know that the developers are using to develop their DEF rating but they gatekeeping lol

I saw from the Gary commentary that bish posted, that there is a feature to edit the ratings.

Perhaps we can see how bish feels about editing some of the more outlandish ratings that are clear outliers.

Not sure how everyone would feel about that, tho?

Fair but if you were in win now mode and probably could have gotten him for free with that contact before we knew he got the big DEF rating.

And bish, would you be open to doing it?

This is how the game has been played from the beginning. Teams where built based on this system. Can't modify it now...

Even if it’s frustrating there’s been weird ratings and outliers every year. Whiteside, Moses Brown, etc. some people get a pleasant surprise when the ratings come out and some players are unfortunately done a little dirty.

I actually find it pretty funny when there’s a total sim freak even though I’ve yet to land an unexpected sim breaker

Feel like we've had this discussion a few times.

I'd vote against having Bish edit ratings. Just replacing one subjective system with a new one. Plus putting a bunch of pressure on Bish to decide who gets changed and by how much seems like we're setting ourselves up for controversy.

I've had a GM or two reach out to me to change a rating. Even brought receipts...but I am completely 100% against it. I get that there are a lot of outliers and outlandish ratings but I still believe that the overall sim makes sense and the numbers in the end are pretty accurate for the overwhelming majority of players. The teams that should do well do well. In my opinion, it is about the build and team chemistry and putting together a team that makes sense.

Having me arbitrarily change numbers makes the game way to subjective when I have done everything I can to take that out. People will never agree and always push for a better number for their player. I think it is to much of a slippery slope to do this and we're better off accepting that the sim is not perfect and never will be but is still a pretty fair representation of the NBA.

Just for verification. I never once asked for any numbers to be changed. I am only acknowledging that this product is the “k-mart” version of the actually league. 2K at least tries to be comparable. I have invested too much time here, to just not care
