FWIW Fears scoring efficiency is virtually identical to Flagg and better than VJ.

Queen had 4 turnovers
At 1:58 of the tweet, Queen hit a three-point shot.
ESPN showed ZERO QUEEN HIGHLIGHTS. The game was not close. Jokic got a triple double.
However, Queen made a huge statement.
Jokic was going for the quadruple double…

DQ had him on ice skates, looking like Rocky Balboa tip-toeing, and with two left feet.
At other times, Deeik Queen stopped, waited, and zipped past a defender who didn't even move before DQ had already laid the ball in. His stop and go is SICK.
The Wizards shoukd have drafted Derik Queen

I am happy for Derik Queen. The Wizards did not want DG..closg00 wrote:
I think I am going to cry instead, as a woeful Wizards fan, I am imagining an alternate universe where we have Alex, Deni, Derik, and a high pick in 26, we would perhaps be in the play-in next year. Dumars will not be Nico’d.
Just a fantasy, onward aboard the tank we go.
Michael Winger and Jamilla Wideman of the Mystics did not want Angel Reese. Instead, they got two All-Star rookies in the next draft. Angel killed the Mystics that first year. This season, the Mystics were very pleased with Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen.
I knew Queen was good enough for Washington!
But I am glad TROY WEAVER once again showed out on draft day. He was right when all the other GMs passed on DQ. Didn't Weaver assemble the Pistons? Before they canned him because of the losses? Now look at Detroit and the Weaver picks. Wasn't WEAVER with OKC, too? He and Dawkins/Winger have something in common.
The Wizards are in it for their long haul.
Deni Advidja will have a nice career.
Derik Queen will have a nice career.
Who can smell what the Wizards are cooking?

Remember when I was right about Paul Millsap?
Derik Queen is just as good. No, he's even better than i predicted he would be.
Who called him fat?
Who else thought he was trash because of his NBA Pre Draft Combine results?
Who said he'll be out of the league soon?
How many of you said he's an old rookie? (A ripe old 21 on 12/27)
I know those of you still don't like him. BUT DEAL WITH THOSE NUMBERS.
DeMarcus Cousins got better, IMO.

Should Nate still be forum moderator for bad decision making. Lol. Joking I know he doesnt get paid but if he did.. serious demotion. here. I queen makes allstar in 2 years .. I said this before, dawkins should be fired
.he seems cool personality wise.. but this mistake in inexcusable . No excuse that other gms fvvvckddd up to. Dawkins should have read realgm board because he would still have a job.
NOw I would never wish anyone to be without employment, but being a GM of a billion dollar organization means you have to keep the die hard fans happy with great decision making. i consider myself a loyal fan for over 20 years so I expect us to make exceptional decisions. If evidence shows this is not happening, then I am extremely disappointed and most loyal fans feel the same way i do i believe. Again, I don't wish negativity on anyone, but I do expect queen to be picked over young.
I hope DQ and Tre Johnson each have multiple All-Star appearances in their futures.

Rather have had Cedric Coward and Ryan Kalkbrenner
Either way, we are going to need to wait a couple of years to see how this class plays out...

Remains to be seen if Queen a good defender on a contending team, but he’s proving me wrong.
Shows what kind of scout I’d be. I was convinced Queen and knueppel would be bums. They both looking terrific.

Derik Queen may turn out to be a terrific NBA player. Who knows?

OTOH, so far, Will Richard, who was drafted by GS with the #55 pick, has run circles around both of them. He's also run circles around Ace Bailey. & around VJ Edgecombe. Also around Cooper Flagg. & been better than Dylan Harper as well. He's starting at SG for the Warriors, btw.

Sion James was picked at #33. He hasn't been as good as Will Richard, but he's been a lot better than Tre Johnson.
Ryan Kalkbrenner went at 34, one pick after Sion James. He's been way better than everyone listed above except Will Richard. He's been a ton better than Derik Queen, for example.
Why isn't anyone in here saying "we should have drafted Ryan Kalkbrenner instead of Tre Johnson," I wonder.
Why isn't anyone in here saying "NO should have drafted Ryan Kalkbrenner instead of Derik Queen," I wonder.
Or, better yet, why isn't anyone saying some team "should have traded their mid-R1 pick for the #33, #34 & #55; they coulda picked Ryan Kalkbrenner, Sion James, & Will Richard?
How about that, huh?

I had Derik 6th or 7th on my final board so it wasn't that I was entirely out on him. The concerns I have are the concerns I still have and he hasn't answered. The low effort on D. Great hands for sure, but too much standing around.

I would also like to keep in mind the best rookies in 2025 aren't necessarily the best players in the class 3-4 years down the line. The most ready NBA players don't always turn out to be the best.

Will Richard is 22 yrs old with 4 years of college experience. Sion James is 22 yrs old with 5 yrs of college experience. Ryan Kalbrenner is 23 yrs old with 5 yrs of college experience. It doesn’t surprise me that they’re having better starts to their pro careers than 18 and 19 yr olds with one yr of college experience.

Really? I think it was always pretty clear he'd be an offensive weapon, the problem was the sheer scale of liability he'd be on defense, from a "weakness/problem," to catyclsmically bad". I do not care that we let him pass, the offense is not a surprise to me beyond the scale of it (I thought it would be good, but not this good). But the problems are the problems, I have seen an endless litany of scoring bigs in the modern NBA become utterly worthless over time because of how much of a liability they are on defense. No interest last spring, no interest now.

Re: The 2025 Rookie Class
When DQ drops 40, you'll still have doubts.
When Queen has a triple-double, you'll doubt him.
His hands?
His feet?
How will he defend in tne playoffs?
Everything but admit you're wrong. He's still just 20 years old, BTW.
Okay.
P.S. Alperen Sengun is killing it with Durant and teammates that complement him,

A year ago when we were only 15 games into the
season, there probably weren't many who were
talking about Kyshawn.

Sure! All the same... kinda nice for the team that got Will at #55, don't you think?
But, you are actually making my real point for me, Zards: let's stop coming to conclusions about guys who've played a dozen games!

Derrick Queen got a shot out on the Bill Simmons Podcast with Zach Lowe- "The Pelicans are really depressing but Derrick Queen is really good"
Also they have Kon ranked already in the 60s for top 100 player in the NBA.

It would be funny if Kon was ultimately better than Flag, but Flag is just a pup….

Sure, Richard is shooting the ball better than Flagg, Edgecombe, and Harper but his shot quality is more favorable and his role within the offense is much simpler. It's dubious to compare a fifth starter to players who are expected to carry a significant load in their team’s offense.

Rookies can certainly be productive but rarely are they impactful. Even LeBron was a bit of negative. Outside of Chris Paul or Tim Duncan its hard to find a rookie that made a significant impact in terms of wins.
Now by next season as these guys learn the finer points of the game beyond just being productive, you could see a talented 2nd yr player really become a difference maker.
