Re: LaMelephant: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
Doubt its real, but LaMelo has been so disappointing this season, don't honestly have any feelings either way. I mean his value is below Josh Giddey now. He just never grew up, and probably needs another 4 years to do so.

Its going to be so depressing if they move off LaMelo before they do Miles...

Re: LaMelephant: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
Miles probably isn't tradable for anything decent.
He's a weird player. Hardly ever injured, puts up stats, not a bad contract... but he's kinda "meh" at everything. He has no elite skills. And the off court drama is a wasteland.

How about "Melo needs to show he can stay healthy before we execute a plan that tries to build around him"?
I was unaware that " both" is an impossible option.
Sounds like a convenient excuse to be too cowardly to do anything beyond rolling a 5yr plan forward every season

So we should build around him before we are confident that he can stay healthy enough to justify building around? Not tracking that.
Melo is a very unique player and I think he requires a unique supporting cast. I don't want to use assets to build out that team, only for the team never to go anywhere because Melo perpetually misses 40 games a season.

Re: LaMelephant: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
I feel like I've been fairly clear in my desire to build "in spite of him" moreso than "around him" and I feel like you're just looking to argue so I'm not going to belabor the point any further.
You can either do something before he's irreparably damaged goods, or you can admit he's irreparably damaged goods and move on
They're doing neither out of an abundance of cowardice.
"We can't build because we don't know what we have with Melo"
" We never put a good team around him so we don't know if it can work"
"We aren't competitive so just sit him out to be cautious" (wasn't this you last year?)
If we're in agreement that he's fragile then what exactly are we doing kicking the can down the road? I would assume it's for the sake of building around him? If you're not going to do it because he keeps getting hurt, then why are we still kicking the can?

I have never said to sit out Melo, quite the opposite - he needs to play, he needs to improve and build discipline, strength, and experience and it's impossible to do that when he can't stay on the court.
I have no doubts that, if he could stay healthy, Melo would be a major asset. I don't need to see him on a more talented team to know he'd be a cornerstone piece if he could stay healthy.
Our team needed a makeover and that's what we've done since the new owners took over. IMO it's unwise asset management to use assets to add talent and salary without a long term plan. Melo is the single most significant variable in that plan, and again IMO a decision has to be made about what to do with him before substantial assets should be spent.

John Collins struggling with the Clippers.
Bridges/2nd round pick for John Collins
At least Collins will play his role and not try to overshadow our young core. He's also a legit pf with size unlike the undersized Bridges.

Re: LaMelephant: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
Sorry I’m not very adept at interpreting a clown emoji, but is that Melo calling this guy and his report BS? I presume so.
Still, after all that he posted again, saying “whatever happens…GOD GOT ME”. I’m glad to see that, as his faith witness. But it also tells me there’s stuff percolating…
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Getting anything valuable for melo would be a massive sigh if relief. Good riddance we should have moved on from him last year.

I bet we would have traded him if he was not always hurt but gotta build some value back first. 85!cents on the dollar would be a win at this point.

Re: LaMelephant: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
Man not a popular opinion anymore but I still want to ride it out with Melo. Kon is probably stylistically the best player we have paired with him in 5 years (he and Miller never play together, Hayward was old, Miles and Terry are/were empty stat scrubs).
To finally have a good match with Melo and then dump him so soon after would irk me.

Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Re: LaMelephant: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
I want to see melo kon and miller together for at least 30 games please.
That may take 7 years but whatever.

I just don’t think we should trade him until 2026 or 2027. We lose absolutely nothing by waiting it out. If he’s gotta go by then so be it. But at least let us see it with the young core first. Kon and Miller need him for their development, we’ve seen firsthand what happens when the team doesn’t have a playmaker.

i think you could end it there. his inefficient dump play isn't good enough to ignore the bad PR look he continues to create

Re: LaMelephant: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
I've mentioned previously there has been articles before where Brandon was the only known "untouchable" player.
I think the new owners have sneakily wanted to tank since taking over but have been trying to hide it a little to minimise the hate they get from fans like we see in here. Ball does have a following.
Unless Ball somehow turned it around into a serious, fit, healthy point guard they were always looking to move him I reckon.

Re: LaMelephant: The LaMelo Ball Thread (#2)
It's a great draft year. We have only beaten the Nets, Wizards, Jazz, Bucks (without Gannis) so far. Why wouldn't they want to tank?
If LaMelo wants out, good for him. I am pretty sure we can still manage to be the laughing stock of the league without him. At the same time, if I am not getting a good pick or something good back there is no reason to be in a hurry.
