The solution is to borrow from mlb. Play more than one game against an opponent when you travel to a city.

Toronto has already played @ Philly twice. Rather than have travel at the end of the first game and prior to the second, playing back to back eliminates 2 travels.

Provide a day off before and a day off after will get as many games in but less fatigue. Fatigue contributes to injury. It's stupid to play b2b in two different cities.

When Clippers and Lakers played in the same building, this already happened.

nba did do this a few years ago, and it went away
see raptors schedule in 2022-23
6 instances of playing same team b2b in same city.
https://www.espn.com/nba/team/schedule/_/name/tor/season/2023

We have 3 of them this year.

In Jan vs Atl and also 76ers, then in March vs Heat

Of course it's against an East team, the Heat.

I thought this can only be done for home games? They're probably going to take a fine like the Cavs.

That’s Adam Silver in a nutshell. He announces a new rule and then stops enforcing it after awhile.

To be fair to the Warriors, and I did not know this at the time of my post, that was already their FIFTH b2b this season. That makes things a little different because that is a disgrace of a schedule. This was probably intended as a FU to the league, but ultimately it's the fans that pay the price. Many fans buy tickets explicitly to see Curry and I am sure there were many that were eager to cheer/heckle Butler.

The Kawhi Clippers thing working out as poorly as humanly possible and ruining their franchise is funny as ****. 2019 will always be amazing but the way he was moving that whole summer was so wack. Demanding we trade Lowry/Fred/Siakam to get PG/Russ coming off a championship always rubbed me the wrong way. And seeing that the clippers are basically ruined for the next decade+ because of it is amazing.

Had they kept Powell, things would've been okay.

You can have a roster of around 22 and have an "nba elite" season of 60 games and another nba season of maybe 20-30 games ending in the nba cup happening some time in late Jan/early Feb. Players would be capped at playing no more than 65 games total between both levels. When a team goes to a city they would play a game at each level within 2 or 3 day period. Obviously pricing would reflect the difference in levels and only NBA elite games would be shown nationally. This way players would never play more than 3 games in a week. Anyway that's my rough idea.

I think the league does that more the past few years, but the 2 LA teams and the 2 NY teams are the only pairs in the same city, so it's limited.

I guess an argument against it is about competitive advantage. If a rival meets say Miami twice at a time when Bam and Herro are hurt, might be two easy wins compared to a third conference rival meeting them later at full strength. But I don't think the NBA schedule makers care about that stuff anymore than caring about evening out B2B's for injury prevention.

Yes but the Hawks play the Knicks the day before. If they move the first Atlanta/Raptors game to the Sunday, the back to back would be in the same city. Giving neither team an advantage.

It's stupid to have a day off between the games when it means the first game is b2b in two cities for the Hawks.

I think it would even out. Bam and Herro will be healthy when they meet another team facing injury.

Thing is b2bs in the same city reduce travel, which reduces fatigue.

I feel bad for Pascal this season. He's balling out, maybe all star again, but they've won 2 games. Sad to have a wasted season at this stage of his career, and it's not like they'd trade him to a contender. He just has to wait a whole year for Hali to make them relevant again. Even then they'll have to replace Turner at the C
