Guy is super talented for sure. Seems a bit of a flake and injury prone.
We could trade for him at the deadline, tell him to heal up the rest of this season and continue the tank to get a top pick.
In theory, we've got the salaries to trade, a young vet in Kispert, and young guys with potential. Could throw in a future pick or two also.
Not sure he's the right answer, tbh.
LaMelo is far from the right answer. He may pop in his later 20's as a complimentary piece, but not the right fit for us.
Also, what happens if we get pick ~4 and we have Brown and Boozer on the board. We almost assuredly have to pass up on Brown for Boozer because of Ball...
I want a clear deck for any of the top 5 prospects, which we have because they can all play with Tre, Sarr, and KG.
Im looking for teams, similar to our Smart/Grizzlies trade last year, where a team has financial issues and are not good enough to justify it:
- The Mavs situation is interesting because they are right under the 2nd apron and will be in the repeater tax next year... Meaning they cut a 60M check for being 16M above the Tax!!! They need to move AD and cut salary to get a top 8 pick and have financial flexibility to build around Flagg moving forward. Need to keep tabs on them... Maybe something with NYK with OG? ... Maybe the Twolves with Gobert?
- GSW with Kuminga as well, but they are on a clear 2-year window and will blow it up after.
- The Cavs are obvious because they are so top heavy with redundant skill sets (Mitchell/Garland and Mobley/Allen). Something will happen there.
- One trade that Im going to keep in back pocket until after the draft order is set is moving our protected 2027 pick for a lotto pick in 2026.
I have mentioned before, but OKC has 3 picks (Actually 4, but I dont see the Jazz pick conveying because its top 8 protected), and they simply dont have the roster space for more players (Such a wild talent base).
OKC wants to keep the party going and values, more than anything, future 1st that are in the top 20.
Assuming the LAC pick stays around 10-13, I would trade our 2027 1st with some protection (Top 8?) for that pick as I think the 2027 draft is meh.
Look at the guys in the 8-15 range... Peat, Tounde, Avdalas, Cenac, Quaintance, Sarr, Lopez, Carr, Flemings, Lendeborg...
Again, it would probably be a draft night trade with a player Dawkins likes falling to that pick, but I would be more than open
