Clippers have three players on contract for 2027. They are not looking to sign or take on any big contracts unless it's a future building block.

The current goal is just have a team that can win games and do it's best to be competitive around James and Kawhi until the next phase of team building.

youre completely correct about the long term plan. Unfortunately it doesnt seem that they have a team that can win games while they wait for contracts to expire. So the plan should probably change to blow it up for whatever picks and young talent they can possibly get while still trying to keep the books clean in 2027. The only difference from the original plan to this one is theyd accept sucking instead of trying not to.

Yea, for sure, I think the difficulty with sucking is the they are just helping OKC get better. Also it's a very hard sell to your fans that you are sucking but not getting a high pick out of it. Fans call for tanking, and bail when teams are tanking, but at least they have the hope of high picks. What is the hope there?

Unless they can trade back for their own draft picks, any plan that includes deliberately being a bad team is hard to explain the logic. Getting draft picks from a team that is solid and looking to be better for your older still productive players doesn't help that either.

Norm and his group wanted a long term extension, Norm is 32 and of course the Clippers can't extend him on a long term contract when the team only has like 2 more years (including this) with the old guys.

He did great, but what would be the point of keeping him? Have this year and then he goes into free agency and goodbye.

Nobody wanted Lue when the Clippers signed him. He rebuilt his image as the Clippers' coach. He got a reputation for reacting to game situations and going to his bench to take advantage of matchups - a luxury he had because his gm had built a very deep team. He went from being a bit of a joke to a real coach with demand.

I personally do not remember the world where Lue was a joke. Yeah, some haters on the internet hated him, but that does not mean industry thought he is a joke. He was always well respected, I truly believe Lue had stupid haters on the internet because of his looks, they were posting those Lue open mouth face gifs, where he does looks goofy, like no one would have hated him if he looked like Chris Finch IMO, internet trolls just hating on a guy cause hes a mouth breather basically. Lue proved his worth years ago.

Look, I am Euro, David Blatt is maybe my favorite coach ever, I think he got the bad end of the stick, I am still a bit sad about that, its frustrating Blatt was in a finals with Love and Irving injured and Lue got all these guys healthy and won, also Lebrin just hated Blatt so he never got a fair chance, but going back to Lue, by the time Lue stopped coaching CAVS, he was proven as very good coach in the NBA.

Coaching job is the worst job in the world, because if team stuggles, its all your fault, but when team wins, its superstar player who is to thank.
