Man, what's even the point of rooting for this team if it's just gonna be gloom and doom all the time for a team playing .600 ball
I gotta find a way to take a break from here
don't you think we're past the point of being happy to just have a decent team ?
we gave away all the picks we could. we're right up against the 2nd apron. we were in the eastern conference finals last year. we're supposed to be a contender. so we're judged by that criteria. it's not an accomplishment to be pretty good anymore. and so far we don't look like we can compete at the highest levels. that could change but noticing it now is not being negative. it's just being aware.
Last playoffs, we went into the Boston series thinking we were gonna get smoked. Then we pulled off the unthinkable.
I learned from last year that the regular season can only determine so much. You also don't have to be a 50+ win team or even have homecourt advantage to make it to the Finals.
I know the holes on the team, I feel it's mostly with our supporting cast. League is getting younger, taller, longer, and more athletic. For some role players, mid to late 20's feels like the new early 30's. League caught up quick so, so dominating won't be as easy as we expected. There is A LOT of parity thus far.
I still have hope though. Diawara is tailor made for the current NBA landscape and we are actually starting to give him minutes. I am glad the team knows Diawara has a higher ceiling than Dadiet, and won't waste time trying to showcase Dadiet's value as a 1st round pick in favor of Diawara's development.
I never thought Kolek would see minutes next to Brunson, and Mike Brown actually tried it. Is Kolek a smart enough player to make up for his physical shortcomings? That's what will determine whether he stays in the NBA.
Jalen is still elite.
Mikal is unlocking new parts to his game. I feel like the team would benefit more right now if he got more shots up, but maybe him facilitating is part of a longterm plan to make the rest of the team better. The same way Mikal stepped up offensively when Jalen was out last year, we might need Mikal to step up now in the short term.
KAT's percentages are down, but I still see moments of elite talent. I want to believe he can get it together. The debate with him will always be whether his offense can overcome his defensive shortcomings.
We wanted the Yabu from Philly and we got hosed. We are trying to make the best of it, but that signing really screwed us. Toronto got Mamu for half what we paid Yabu, and we had a front row seat to Mamu lighting us up last year. I wonder how we missed on going for Mamu and if we really thought Yabu was better.
I think we will see some trades this season. Can't really make trades yet until after December 15th. A few tweaks might be what the team needs. Games should still be fun to watch until then, win or lose. There has to be something to take from every game.
Criticisms are valid on the team, but losing our fighting spirt less than 20 games into the season?! Where we can't even be excited to get revenge on the Magic and should just prepare to go in disappointed into every game because our team is flawed and might lose?!
