Lowkey Bam has been a bit out of sync the past 3 games too. 3 ball hasn't dropped and he hasn't been as efficient. Still a lot more meat on the bones for this team. A lot more upside to unlock.

It occurred to me… getting Norman coming off of one of his best seasons for pennies is just weird. It makes no sense and should have not happened. So why did it?

My thought… the NBA made it so. It was their way of quietly penalizing the Clippers for the Kawhi stuff while throwing us a bone for the Rozier stuff.

You know this type of thoughts roams in my head multiple times a season lol

And I’m with you. This is not a clean business, the NBA. What the NBA wants, the NBA gets!

Bam is a rhythm player. He needs 5+ games injury free in a row to get back in the flow. He'll work on it, and you'll see his FT% and 3s back online soon enough. His defense has been elite the whole time however. We're lucky to have him.

Where are all the people I saw all offseason who talked negatively on Pat, the roster, and wanted me committed to a mental hospital for saying this roster is capable of winning 50 games?

This is like the 900th time these cats been on the wrong side of a Riley move, and they never learn. When it’s getting close to summer time and we are playing in our 10th ECF in 21 years I’d like everybody to just pause and recognize the greatness that is the Pat Riley led Miami Heat organization, and stop being stupid about it. We won’t always be blessed like this, Pat and Spo won’t live forever. For those that watched this team before there ever was a Big 3 or a Shaq and Wade I beg of you to enjoy the good times, which we are currently very much still in.

There isn’t a team in the league wouldn’t trade their last two decades of basketball with us outside maybe the Warriors, and even still our run has spanned much longer than theirs. It’s a dynasty when you zoom out, and has gone through multiple builds, I’m not sure I’ve seen it done like this organizationally in sports before. You usually see a build go on a run for a franchise but rarely do you see them continue a run multiple times with different groups.

No doubt this is a phenomenal organization, but a team that has been a fringe playoff team for several years and has caught some bad breaks on aggressive (and expensive) trades definitely deserved criticism.

Deep playoff runs and this current iteration of a Spolestra offense definitely illustrate why he’s the best coach in the business.

Really sorry you had to go two full NBA seasons without going to a conference or NBA finals. What a travesty

Unfortunately think the injury like you mentioned threw off the good rhythm he had going, especially coming off that huge game closing out the clippers on their homecourt. He’ll get it back soon enough, fortunately the defense never stalls

Bam is the one player this Heat team can’t do without if they truly plan to compete for something , well him and a few others. Defensive monster, and that’s putting it lightly.

90% of the league would die for the runs like what Heat had the last 6 years. A fringe playoff team or not, they provided a lot of exciting moments for the fans.
Sure, all teams deserve fair criticism. No team is perfect. But what I see from negative Nancys on this board is not criticism but just whining.
Nancys will be Nancys and Karens will be Karens again as soon as we run into some rough patches again, I'm sure of it, lol
Yup, I'm surprised by the 180 turn in the pace this year and Spo has done a great job.

There will be ebbs and flows (especially with the 3 ball), but man, it's very exciting to think this is just the early stages of seeing what this frontcourt pairing can do.

Being able to play 48 minutes with a Center that can hit an open 3 and space the floor. Being able to trot out a starting frontcourt that averages over 7 3PA per game at league average efficiency+ without sacrificing size--to the contrary being one of the bigger front courts in the NBA.

This entire new offensive system wouldn't work without this frontcourt personnel. A lot can be built and improved upon with this foundation.

Aggressive Ware being locked in and knowing where he needs to be on both sides of the ball changes a lot.

What's fantastic about this is that you know that we are running actual plays in practice. Spo is a mastermind. Come playoff time he knows things will slow down and we will have to run sets. So we will be prepared and look like a whole new offense that other teams wouldn't have had 82 games to scout on.

Very interesting trend to monitor:

Miami's defense has seen the 2nd highest rate of 3pt shooting attempts (46.1% of FGA) in the NBA.

Despite the high rate of 3pt shooting, Miami's defense has the lowest opponent 3pt percentage in the NBA at 31.6%.

Just seeing these 2 stats can cause alarm and make one wonder if Miami has gotten lucky with team's shooting poorly against them. Maybe that plays into it. But both from the eye test and the numbers it seems this is by design. Miami's defense wants to funnel teams into rushing contested 3pt looks and keep them out of the paint.

Watching the games it doesn't feel or look like Miami is giving up a ton of clean looks on the perimeter due to failed coverage and rotations. So, I checked some shot quality numbers to validate that observation. According to the Defensive Shot Quality Numbers, Miami's defense is giving up the 4th most difficult shot quality in the NBA (behind only Boston, OKC, and Houston).

All of this reflects intent and execution over luck on defense.

Best thing about Ware lately, and I'm sure Spo loves it, is the +/-. Not only are his minutes not a negative, but they are often the difference between winning and losing:
- In his first 8 games, he was a negative in every game except the Memphis game, but even in that game he was +15 in 23 minutes in a 32 point win, so the team was largely as effective when he was out as when he was in.
- Recently against Cleveland, Knicks, Philly and Dallas, his mins were + and the difference between a won or loss. +6 in a 2 point OT win over Cavs, +8 in a 2 point win over NYK, +26 in a 10 point win over Philly, +15 in a 4 point win over Dallas.

He was also +17 in the 36 point Chicago win.

He is becoming a difference maker and an advantage in matchups.

Coup with THE pulse check on Miami's schemes to date. I beat him to the punch on some of the stuff regarding defending the 3pt line. GREAT READ.

Particularly notable that, while Miami is pushing the pace a lot more, they're still just an average/below average transition offense and are actually really generating their best offense in the half court:

Starting with the basics, Miami is sitting pretty comfortably with the fastest pace of anyone at 106.1 possession a night with an Offensive Rating of 116.0, No. 12 in the league. That may not seem as impressive considering the team is averaging the most points per game at 123.9 – pace adjusting down for a HEAT team is still something we’ll all have to get used to – but it’s a significant upgrade for an offense that was producing 112.4 points per 100 possessions a year ago, No. 21 in the league that year and the year before.

The transition volume is real, up to 17.3 percent of their offensive possessions (No. 4) from 12.3 percent last year (No. 27), and there’s little reason to think it can’t sustain beyond the typical gradual slowing of pace that happens across the league after the first few weeks. Their actual efficiency in transition has dipped a bit, down from 128 points per 100 transition plays (No. 10) last year to 122.6 (No. 22 this year). Not a huge difference, and transition possessions remain widely more efficient than anything in the halfcourt. This remains one of the biggest, and most positive, changes to the offense when it comes to results.

In the halfcourt is where things get interesting.

According to CleaningTheGlass.com, Miami’s halfcourt offense currently ranks No. 6 in the league. According to Genius Sports player tracking data, their halfcourt offense is No. 7 in points per chance – the equivalent of per possession in their data, with actual points per possession factoring in offensive rebounds, which we’ll get to later – at 1.03. All good things. If that’s the range where they finish the season, they’re in good shape.

your absolutely right. the past seasons our playoff roster was different from reg season starters back to when we had Leonard starting with Bam and then boom throw the tape out cause we not on that. now it may be the same roster but a whole different offense when the PO starts even the offense is working you still need to switch it up when the game slows down. we got a glimpse of it when Norm took over in the 4th quarter during the Philly game so Spo knows when to pull those tricks out for real game practice. I guess Precious was cut because the team saw KJ was ready so im excited to see him play with Jovic catching some lobs

I think now that we know Bam/Ware works (which we all kinda figured it would going back to last season), the big question we need to solve now is if Spo can make Herro/Powell work. Because just as Bam/Ware is our best 2 bigs, those are our best 2 wings, and we need our best talent to be cohesive. If it doesn't, I think you have to move Tyler because he's going to command a lot of money and that's a huge commitment to a guy that might not be the long term solution.

But, if it does, this could be a fun year. Still don't think you go higher than low 40's for Tyler, but if it works out, at that point even if you do still get a chance to make a consolidation trade for an upgrade, Tyler should at least be tradable, being young and in his prime. I really want to see this version of Tyler playing in an offense that knows what its doing, with another guy (Powell) that can take the load off, in the playoffs.

I think the best lineup to close games should be Herro/Powell/Wiggins/Bam/Ware. Those are the five most talented guys on the roster. If you can't make that work, then some of them have to go.

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot Jaime. He's probably gotta be the sixth man. I dunno, good problem to have.
