its honestly getting hard to say any of these guys are bad picks. Mogbo imo is the only guy in real danger due to drafting CMB, hes pretty redundant now considering they are almost the same player. The opportunity to show his game is gone, injuries is the only way i see him getting any real PT, that being said the FO isnt the type to just discard players after investing in them without giving them a fair shot

Im pretty damn sure they didnt draft Martin with the intention of him making a big impact this year, especially when you consider the glut at his position. He has 3&D potential and hes an athlete. I think they had 905 in mind for him and he can show wheres hes at next season.

there arent many 2nd round picks, if any, that are drafted and expected to make and impact in year one. Just because other guys play on garbage teams doesnt mean anything

and what's more surprising to me is that his shots have actually looked good - he's going up straight and balanced and the shots look money right when they leave his hand. this from a guy who seemed to naturally love shooting off balance.

If he shoots the 3 like this Jakobe is already a player.

Gradey's confidence looks gone. I don't know how long you keep trying to make it work with him.
At the end of the day, Gradey needs to be taking and making 3s at a high volume/rate if he's going to be playing in the NBA. He, quite simply, is not that good a shooter and can't score well enough otherwise.
I like Gradey's tools. You can see development in his game over the years. His defence is improving. However, there needs to be flashes offensively. Those have seemed to died down over time.

I just don't think he's going to get there in Toronto. Seems like a guy that either kills it in Europe or carves out a role on another team after his rookie contract is up.

Jakobe on the other hand seems like a Raptor's coaching development success story. Comes in with a tweener game as an off the dribble scorer. Becomes clear he's not THAT guy at this level. Coaches have completely changed his approach.
He keeps it super simple. On-ball defence and open threes. That's all. Do that well and you will play in the NBA. Quick feet, a motor and 40% from 3 quickly becomes a 30mins/starter in this league.

Gradey wore down and finally got hurt. This is still conditioning with him. When he has it, he's very good. When he loses it things get bad for him fast.

Walter isn't as consistent or good as Gradey just yet when it comes to game but he's further ahead on conditioning and may have more potential there. If he irons out his game I think he has more potential to be a 30+ mpg starter at some point just because conditioning seems to be such a nagging issue for Gradey but both of these kids are good.

I'm coming around on Gradey this year, even though I'd like more Battle minutes... and I think it's really not about his 3pt shot at all, for him or Jakobe. There's good reason to play both of them even when their shots aren't falling, as Darko has done. Gradey is just being defended like a shooter even though he's mid from deep, mostly due to his college career, quick release and being a goofy looking white guy.

But he hasn't played like a shooter at all, more like a slasher. He's the best guy off the bench doing a ripthrough and getting downhill. He never stops moving, has good athleticism on the wing, and is using his length more on defense and the glass. He drives the ball and moves it quickly off the catch, similar to what Shead and Mamu do for the offense. That stuff is what the team really values and it's harder to get from a replacement level bench wing.

Well, how do you explain the team shooting 37% from 3 while he's at 32%. The rest of the team doesn't work hard on D?

He's playing 16 mpg at the moment, which shouldn't be too taxing on him even with the expectation that he plays better defense. He's smashing it from the corners well enough, he just hasn't been hitting ATB at a competent percentage. 21.6% sucks a lot, particularly minding that he's still been capable of shooting 45.5% from the corners.

I don't think his usage is the problem, particularly not taking half as many shots in half as many minutes as he did last year (when he shot 35% at least).

Everyone wants more minutes for Battle. The fact is Battle is signed for a reasonable $2,3M next season. Next season is the time to fret about his lack of minutes. The Raptors need to see what they have in Gradey and JKW. That's the way development goes. It doesn't always work out. And it would be nice to get Ochai back on track for the TDL.
