Emirates Cup sounds like a golf tournament.pepe1991 wrote:I forgot they call it EMIRATES cup. I'm dead. Silver would sold his left nut to get 1% of soccer popularity.
What's next? Audi cup in Munich?
What if the games weren't also regular season games? If it was a separate tournament, wouldn't it be more popular? Aren't the European tournaments that inspired it not regular season games? How do they expect us to process that regular season games are also tournament games?Dan33185 wrote:jasonxxx102 wrote:it's only year 3 and people have already stopped caring about the cup

The teams that make it to to the championship game play 83 games?

If they win, they will still face the Thunder as well, if I'm not mistaken.

I think in the future when trophy will be established, it will be separate from regular season, as of now I think it is smart that is also reg season game, since even cup haters still can not do anything about it, since at worst it is just the same game as before cup existed. Making it separete form reg season I think could actually lead to shortening regular season, which is what everyone wants.
I think too many people in US think they are unique that they do not care about the cup. LIke of course it is secondary tournament, in Europe, most people who watch domestic tournaments, do not often even notice if its a cup game or not, thing is, Cup in Europe is only really presented in its final week, knockout out games happen before, but they are not super advertised, as I said, you just watch that if you watch domestic games since its just another game. It is the final week where all European tournaments stop so every domestic league would have domestic cup final round grand slam and its then when cup goes full front. And yes, none of the teams that actually competing for league title care that much about cup, it is not unique to Americans. Like Bill Simmons last year complained that cup might not be working cause he was not upset when Celtics were eliminated. Well no *** SHerlock, you are competing for league title, teams around the globe that have higher aspirations sacrifice cup tournaments all the time every year, this is not new.
I think it is popular to hate on NBA cup because they try so hard to shove it in your face, different court styles, headlines everywhere. As I said, main difference compared to otehr leagues, league and people only start talking about the cup when final week cup showtime begins with final 4 teams playing in selected city, all the prior rounds as I said just happen with no real advertising, because its just a cup after all. NBA just tries too hard for what it is, if they started talking about the Cup only when LAs Vegas rounds start, I think people would hate less on it, but they shoving all these preliminary rounds like it is some kind of amazing deal, which is not, and I say this as cup apologist.
