Far from it for me to be a voice of positivity or restraint, but it's tough to get 5 players at all positions who don't have some kind of fault.
KAT is a very good offensive player who isn't that good on defense.
Which would be ok like others say but his offense will disappear at times.
Roping in some of the other "trade KAT" comments to include my own.
If it's for Giannis, Giannis has to play the 5. Because OG would be the 4.
Giannis doesn't like to play the 5.
Giannis does best with a C who shoots the 3.
That's KAT.
I guess the Knicks could get by with the 1-4 spacing for Giannis but the best model for him has been Brook or a guy like Turner.
Moving on to something like KAT for Herb Jones or Murphy, the Knicks would have to take on like Zion or Jordan Poole or Murray as well.
(I know, the trade is usually Mitch for Herb)
Where would Poole or Murray play? Would you even want them as Knicks?
And then the Knicks would have a C rotation of Hukporti/Mitch/Yabu/?
KAT is frustrating and has looked uneven, but in the pregrame Brown was quoting as saying "I've asked KAT to do a lot" in the offense.
They emphasized more 3s early, somewhat different actions, now they are integrating more P&R plays in etc, so maybe KAT isn't totally comfortable yet.
Knicks have played 18 games? It's around the time stuff comes together. On the other hand, in another 15 games is around the time the league scouts what a team is doing and has the book on how to adjust.
That's why the Knicks offense looked great under Thibs before the AS break and not so good after.
I'm not sure I completely trust Brown yet to adjust to when the league adjusts only because this offense seems to be able to be shut down when the other team locks in - either for entire games or for quarters at a time - like the 4th yesterday where the Knicks couldn't buy a bucket for a long while.
Anyway, maybe KAT looks better in 10 games, more fully integrated into the offense.
In any event, it's really hard to trade him for anyone other than another expensive star straight up, and even Giannis comes with issues.
