We have sucked for 4 straight years

Our best player has played 105 games over the last three seasons, and he's got a max deal despite his injury history. That's the guy that we're ok with quitting.

If Melo was healthy and just killing himself as the most dependable player and this was a "get that guy help" situation, I'd be slightly more sympathetic. But this is "yes I'm on a max deal, and yes I haven't been able to play 50 games in a season the last three seasons, but I'm quitting because we're not better in the 10 games I've played this season."

**** that.

If LaMelo played 82 games this year, we still are likely in the lottery, that is the point. It is not like the team has invested in him and he has let the organization down. The organization continues to fail these guys to the point where we aren't a playoff team no matter who is healthy. Health makes the team less watchable for sure, but we are kidding ourselves if we think this team is some hidden dangerous team if only they could maintain health.

I get your point and it has validity, but more so in the sense that players like Brandon, Kon and the rookies need time and experience to hit their max potential. Guys like Melo, Miles are who they are, as are the majority of the supporting cast. So indeed, this version isn’t one player away…it’s gonna take more time. But I do think the right trade of Melo for some strategic quality fits can help move this upward.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

How about instead of trading LaMelo for a worse player they try packaging some of their extra picks with other players to actually upgrade the roster and make the team better? Crazy idea I know, but maybe they should give it a shot for once.

The problem with that is you still have to play the LaMelo availability game.

I personally would rather do this.

If it fails, then trade everyone for some picks back. They have to cash in that wArChEsT and see what can happen with some talent

Guys it’s not like when Melo is healthy and playing, he’s some superstar, or even a really good player. He’s shooting poorly, is still a bad defender, and CONTINUES to play at times like an 18 yo parks hoopster. If it was JUST HIS HEALTH AND AVAILABILITY, you’d have to keep the faith. But he’s 6 years into this pro thing….and he’s NEVER going to change.

Been saying this every year.

6 years in if he hasn't shown it by now then it's just not going to happen.

Chronic ankle issues don't get better with age. The longer we keep him the more we are going to be forced to keep him.

You don't want another Embiid situation where you wait so long and now you're forced to stay with that player. That's what scares me with LaMelo.

It's why I'm perfectly fine trading him for pennies on the dollar just to get off that contract. I simply don't trust his HEALTH long-term.

Did you know that you can actually objectively verify this by looking up his on off stats? If you did, you'd find out that in fact we are massively better as a team when he is on the floor.

Last year, when he was on the floor we had a +9.5 points per 100 possessions differential. This year that number has almost doubled to +17.3.

A three team trade could happen with Sabonis going to GSW we get Kuminga and Ball and you guys get Monk, Carter, Ellis, Hield and picks

Sabonis is a billion times better than acquiring a bunch of depth

fatlever wrote:I'm curious if anyone on the Internet has done a deep dive into his mechanics on his three point shots from three years ago before his initial ankle injuries and now? I remember when he first came back from that ankle injury he was shooting off a 1 foot more as if to protect the ankle that was injured. And now after three years it seems to have morphed into his Every shot shooting form. Obviously his shot was always unorthodox, but I think the ankle injuries have had a negative effect on his footwork and positioning on his shots. Just a theory in my head. But it might explain me steady drop in three point percentage since his initial injury three years ago.

not a deep dive but I looked back at some pre-injury highlights of Melo
a year ago he put up 50 pts in a game - only one one legged 3 pter attempted most taken with feet set
Nov ‘24

pre-injury this season Oct ‘25

back in '23

it does seem like pre-injury he relied a lot less on the one legged fall away 3 pt shot than what we're seeing now
maybe because he set his feet when he had time vs seemingly rushed shot selection he has adopted since current return from injury?

Can you imagine how different Hornets games would be if officials treated Lamelo the same way they do SGA

I've been thinking for years that the Hornets will finally take that next step when they get atleast one professional foul merchant on the squad. Just the way modern NBA offense is; shoot 65 3s a game and make atleast 25 and/or get a guy who can get 12 freebies a game.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

If Bridges wasn't taking 8 3s a game, he definitely has the strength and body control to be a foul merchant. Not that I'd ever advocate for someone to watch Corey Maggette film, but he could learn a couple things from it

Just attack. It's the only way Bridges is useful. Leave the 3s to Miller, Kon, and Melo

Corey maggette film...
Aka an old vhs in your dad's sock drawer, "accidentally" put in the wrong tape cover sleeve (WW2 in Color part 6)

Hey Corey, what's your secret to getting so many free throws?
You just gotta ram it in.
