sounds like mccarthy's ankle isn't 100% yet, so that makes sense

at least some people are getting healthy, that's good news

the guys on kfan were talking about how the darrisaw injury hasn't been handled very well. in letting everyone know the actual timeline of when he'd be ready to go and the team having an adequate backup in place if he was going to be missing this much time - which they largely didn't because shule has been bad

some really not good looks this year from the team and their handling of player injuries

so this season has really taken a hard left off a cliff. what should our expectations be for the rest of the year? seems like it would be impressive to be a .500 team at this point

that feels like a major letdown but maybe my expectations coming into the year were too high (and i didn't ever really define what i thought they might be)

guess i'm just bummed that there doesn't seem like much to root for. i know we've got jefferson, i like our kicker, and this might be harrison smith's last year but that's about all i've got to care about right now. really not sold on mccarthy, but maybe he can put enough together to make me a believer (honestly wouldn't take much)

I think the big thing to watch is whether we think McCarthy still looks viable as a franchise QB by the end of the year.

impressive bounce back win on the road. mccarthy looked solid most of the time. some inaccurate throws here and there but made the big play when he needed to. i think we have to feel good about mccarthy at this point. is he going to be the franchise guy for a decade? who knows but he doesn't look like a bum out there

defense was great, stopped the run, got a lot of pressure on goff. haven't seen the defense play like this against the goff-lions before it was nice to see.

Definitely a needed win last week to keep playoff chances alive. The Vikings are within striking range of the top of the division, but we have a tough schedule and I'm not sure how good they actually are. It's going to be a lot about how McCarthy plays.

we knew that mccarthy would go through growing pains this year, but it's still a bummer to sit through

how does mccarthy spend the whole game looking terrible and then great on the last drive to take the lead? is it just young qb inconsistency? were the bears in prevent? back against the wall nothing to lose?

what was different? and how can we replicate that so he plays like that the whole game?

I’m not sure. McCarthy is going to get the rest of the season no matter how he plays, but we’re not going to win very many games unless he gets better. The accuracy is the big concern.

what does the free agent qb market look like? do you think we need to pick somebody up? even if they want to stick with mccarthy, the only backup with have is brosmer (who might be less ready than mccarthy). with wentz out, don't have much coverage in case of injury

The Vikings signed someone named John Wolford to be the 3rd string QB. I don't necessarily think we're looking for anyone now (we could depending on circumstance), but in the offseason for sure. I think McCarthy is the guy for the rest of the year pretty much no matter what, and I'm fine with Brosmer being the backup for now.
If somehow the Vikings get themselves back into the playoff picture, depending on how they got there, I could see them looking for someone with some starting experience.

why doesn't mccarthy run more? most young qbs they take off running before the trouble even starts but mccarthy will end up surrounded by trouble and he still won't think of taking off

I wish he would, anything to get some first downs.

well it was a dreadful start but what can you expect from an undrafted rookie on the road against a great defense

wonder how long mccarthy will be in the protocol. maybe brosmer can build on this but he isn't going to be a magical savior

Not necessarily an unexpected result, but I was hoping for something better. It’s going to a rough finish to the season whether it’s McCarthy or Brosmer.

i suppose you have to go back to mccarthy since he's the first round pick. need to see if there is anything that can be salvaged. get him enough reps to see if there is any improvement

although i'm really not encouraged with him being out with a concussion. i think qb is the last position you want somebody coming back from a concussion. although by the time you make it to the nfl i suppose every player has had a concussion at some level of football

didn't see the game but i'm guessing getting some positive results will be good for everyone. there will still be some ups and downs but something good happening should improve moral

just need more reps for mccarthy to see if we really have anything with him

Yeah, McCarthy looked solid. It was nice to see. Big time turnaround from the previous few weeks.

greenard is out for the rest of the year, which is a bummer but i suppose in games that don't matter this is an opportunity for younger players (going to see a lot more of dallas turner)

Return to Minnesota Vikings
