Who says they can’t go after both ;)

Have you people looked at Diaz’s stats? Dude has been a strikeout machine his entire career, and keeps it in the yard.

The only thing wrong with Hoffman was…. We didnt have 2 of him. He just wore down during the season. Come playoff time though he was the guy you paid him to be.

The guy had a 1.45 ERA over 12 innings with 18 SOs. He have up just 2 runs, and 1 HR. Not perfect, but pretty effin good against the lineups for SEA, NY and LA.

I hope they learned last year, and from the Dodgers rhe last few years, and know you can’t have enough shut down arms in the bullpen if you want to win 100 games and a world series.

The 30-year-old southpaw (31 in March) has pitched 291 2/3 innings since heading to Japan. In that time, he’s logged a 2.53 ERA with a 20.9% strikeout rate, 7.9% walk rate and 54.5% ground-ball rate in 48 starts out of the BayStars’ rotation.

So just saying, lets not expect much out of Ponace other than insurance and maybe a bullpen arm.

Actual scouts think Ponce is a MLB starter going forward due to his improved velo and changeup and the projections agree

Jays aren’t giving him 30M to be insurance or a bullpen arm, you can guarantee that. He’s getting every chance to start games in 2026

That's fine on what they are hoping for, it doesn't mean it'll play out like that.

We can look at roderigez they hoped when they initially signed him to be a 4th/5th starter and gave him bunch of chances to run with it

Or you could look at Lauer who came from the KBO just last year and pitched well as a SP

I'm so numb to the pain (of missing out on top free agents) that yes, I'm choosing to believe this.

Tucker is gonna be a Jay.

Could well be overly speculative, but that Bieber option always had a mysterious element to it that's never been fully resolved as of today. He could have still received a better deal, even with a discount, if "he loves it here"

It always made me wonder if there was an injury concern from the Bieber side.
Hope I'm wrong.

If there was an injury concern on Bieber's side, he'd want even more to opt out and sign a longer term deal.

Not necessarily, he might be afraid he won’t even pass the physical.

That's no longer a 'concern' if it's something that would have him fail a physical, then is it? Especially not given that every team knows he's still recovering from TJ, so they'd be expecting that.

Yes, of course it might not play out like that - nobody is claiming that any performance is going to be a guarantee. But that's also true of literally every other player in the MLB as well. It's possible that Skenes could get the yips and fall apart. Not likely, but it could play out like that.

But we're talking about expectations, and how they're penciling in the roster 5 months from now. And I don't think the Jays are penciling him in as 'bullpen arm'

Weather was slightly overcast in Dunedin today with a high of 23°C just after lunch, and then a fairly quick drop to about 17°C for the rest of the afternoon.
