Re: Official Liverpool FC Thread II
This is a 5-alarm dumpster fire. Way way way too many shoot-first strikers. No continuity. No sharing the ball.
Unless Slot can convince Wirtz to embrace a Firmino type role, and join McCallister and Szob(im not gonna try and spell his name) in creating plays, and link-up...then this team is gonna continue to be a complete wreck.
Slot is in an impossible position. The obvious answer is to score more goals. And there are plenty of guys on the squad who want to do nothing but that, and who are good at that. But the answer lies in not focusing on the goal...but focusing on creating the chance....something Salah, Gakpo, and the rest of them are not interested in at all. Creating the chance means..."getting the ball to me" in their mind.
Alot of Me's on this team right now.
I think it's time to write this season off. This was a disaster....great idea on paper, but an absolute failure. I think the team needs to take a really good look at the idea that Salah is done. And if he's not "done" but does nothing but try and prove to the world that he's not done...to the detriment of the team...then yeah...he's done.
Our defense...I think Konate has checked out. I think VVD is no longer what he was either. This would be step #1 in revamping this whole thing. Get our defense sorted (might take a minute).
And then yeah....we need to get someone who makes the whole team better. Firmino...Tiago...McCallister.
I think this team will work something out...and will get out of this absolute sh** hole we've dug ourselves....but we're fatally flawed, and the sooner we recognize, and start fixing...the better next season can be.

Stated the PL best defenses, in terms of least xG conceded, after these first three matches were Newcastle United, Arsenal, and Bournemouth. Just so happens Liverpool played all three and won, scoring a total of 8 goals.
Point is the team hasn't settled yet. Cannot wait to see what it looks like when it does.

Well....it was a good win today. Anytime you come out on top of RM, you should be proud.
Seems like we're figuring some things out, which is nice. I still think we're not built right...but at least we seem to have stopped the free fall.

I guess not! We just got handed our arse....brutal. Carved up, and served on a platter.
I remember like 7 years ago, wanting Klopp gone when we hit double-digit draws for the season. I consider that unacceptable. Well...we're at 5 losses already! 5 losses! Half-way there. Gonna stay consistent here.....Slot brought in like half a billion in fire-power this summer, and we're losing 3-0. Better fix something here, cause double digit losses is definitely unacceptable.

Yeah i didnt see this many losses, the lack of defensive balance and Slot losing control this much. He has to show last season wasnt Klopp team winning PL.
I think it is total bs to bench Salah and blame the fact Konate and VVD, Kerkes, Bradley has sucked on him. Slot destroyed the best midfield of last season because of too many attackers like Wirtz

Yeah, I'm done.
At least until changes are made, I'm tuning out. This team isn't fixable under Slot. It's time to pull the plug.

This is a very quick demise for Slot.
Benching, blaming a legendary player who was the best attacker last season and still not winning a single game.

Fans are going to slander Mo for speaking out. But this spells the end for Slot surely.
I would reach out to Jurgen, see if he would entertain the idea of finishing out the season.

They should've let Salah go at the end of his contract.
Sell him in january to Saudi and focus on the rebuild. If you invest that much money, it's to create a new core instead of relying on the existing core.

Yeah, I think your right. If they were gonna bring in 3-4 younger strikers, then you prob aught to have let Salah go. It's a whole lotta "blame, shame, and regret" at this point. I sorta jokingly wondered if Slot would go from the hero, to fired in 6 months....but I don't think it's a joke anymore. This team in is total free-fall. Salah wants out...and I have to say I understand his position totally.....while also understanding Liverpool's.
It's a mess. Swung for the fences, I'll give them that. But this didn't work out at all.

Problem is he had one of his best years and the team won the league.
They already let TAA go so probably was under pressure to retain Sarah and VVD.

Oh I totally get it. This is all hindsight, at this point. They "would have been fools" if they had let him walk after the last few years he's had. It's why I can understand Salah being furious with the benchings....he's been a top scorer on the team...why aren't other guys being benched? I totally understand where he's coming from.
Truth is, there's no answer in sight, and panic has set in, and panic moves are being made. What I'm agreeing with there is that since you brought in 3-4 younger strikers (but all somewhat "proven"...not some young prospects) you prob should have seen that this was going to be a problem, and just moved on from Salah. Now I know that it's not that simple. By letting Salah leave...you now NEED to sign those strikers, and their teams would have used that leverage....I get that there almost always 2 sides. But this was a little bit of a case of wanting to "have their cake, and eat it too" .....and it's blown up in their face.
As is the way with sports.....immediately everyone is looking for who to blame. I'm not sure there is anyone. The team went and bought BIG. And bought guys with proven production. Salah and VVD have been top-level and just led our team to a title. Slot was amazing last year. Fit in seamlessly and there were essentially no bumps. His decision to not make a bunch of signings, but to use Gravenberch like he did was genius.
I thought we were a little overloaded with strikers, and worried about our defense...but then again, I'm always whining about something, so even I took it half-seriously. This team was built to win, and locked in. But it fell completely apart...and what do you do? Who do you blame? I dunno. I think Slot was right to sit Salah. But I also TOTALLY get why Salah is furious, and I see his argument as well.
Honestly....I think this is one of those deals where you just have to be patient, and let Slot tweak here, and tweak there....and pray that something get's 'knocked back into place' and the motor starts humming again. That or at the end of the year, it'll prob be a bit of a fire-sale...and we'll prob be somewhat rebuilding. I just don't see that "replacing that guy" or sacking Slot is gonna actually fix anything.
And unfortunately, in the course of figuring this out...some ego's are prob gonna get bruised. And I think it's a little on them to understand that there's a bit of panic right now, and desperation to right the ship before it sinks. So extraordinary decisions are being made. But if a relationship or two get irreparably damaged...then I guess it is what it is.....Slot's gotta do something.

You can put blame on the recruitment & partly on the manager.
The chemistry within the club was so good last season. Or at least that was the prevailing thought from the outside. Which helped you win a title.
So, what do you do? You decide to spend like crazy this Summer & essentially try to re-make the roster on the fly. Who's at fault? Slot? Either way, it was the wrong call.
Yeah, bringing in Wirtz, Isak, Ekitike was exciting. But also somewhat unnecessary. That was my biggest worry over all the moves that we're made.
Just how would it all fit together? Well, now we know.
Based on Salah's comments, I don't think you have any other choice but to sack Slot. The season is lost, but he's not providing any answers himself. It's time to pull the plug.
Where do we go from here? Not a clue. But the first thing I would do, is try to talk Jurgen into coming back. At least try to convince him to right the ship for the reminder of the season. Beyond that? I don't know...

His aura of being calm and having the players on his side is gone. I dont see being this critical of Klopp even when they disagreed on substitutions etc.
There are many players whose levels has dropped to bottom of the league levels. That doesnt happen if they believe 100% in the coach.

Re: Official Liverpool FC Thread II
I've accepted this as a transitional year rather than a title defense year. That's fine. Yesterday's game against Inter suggests a possible path forward for securing Champions League football next year, imo. This team can win games. We're not in freefall.
Very weird to say last year's title was won by Klopp. Klopp won one PL title, and so has Slot. He's in a bad moment and he likely will never have the success Klopp did, but he's earned a bit of leeway.

Klopp didnt win last years title but Slot inherited a proven Klopp team, the best midfield last season was bought in the summer of 2023.
Salah broke records, him and VVD carried the team like they did in 2019, 2020 titles. It doesnt look good that Edwards and Hughes got all the players Slot wanted, they decided to add too many "star" players to a well balanced team whose worst form was few draws in the spring. To lose 9 games in 11 or 12 games after that isnt good for the rep of Slot. They didnt buy a single player other than the italian who never played. It was factual Klopp transfers that won in 2024/2025.
Of course Liverpool managment are serious people, Slot has alot of leeway and wont get sacked for this lost season. Still im sure they are doubting more now than last year.
